Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Calgary, Explore Prince's Island Park, Dinner at Sky 360

Shake off any post-flight stiffness with a stroll around Prince's Island Park and admire the views of the Bow River

Welcome to Alberta! Nicknamed "Cowtown" for its western heritage, the city's history is steeped in cattle ranching and attracts visitors worldwide for its incredible scenery. Upon arrival at the airport, pick up your rental car and drive to your hotel to check-in. After a refresh, the rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. If you want to immerse yourself in nature, walk or drive to Prince's Island Park, an islet in the middle of the Bow River. Stroll along the picturesque pathways, admire the vibrant floral displays, or sit down for a picnic.

In the evening, make your way to Calgary Tower's revolving restaurant, Sky 360, for dinner overlooking the city. Choose from a selection of dishes, such as seared Pacific scallops or roasted Arctic char, made with locally sourced ingredients. At the same time, you enjoy ever-changing views of the city, Rocky Mountains, and sweeping prairies beyond. Afterward, head to the observation deck for one last glimpse of the skyline before returning to your hotel for a nightcap.

Day 2: Drive to Banff, Sunsets & Stars Evening Walking Tour

Watch the sky transform, and the stars appear in Banff National Park

After a restful night in Calgary, it's time to hit the road for a 1.5-hour drive to Banff, a resort town in the heart of the Rockies. As you drive west along the Trans-Canada Highway, try to spot grazing wildlife like elk, bears, or mountain goats. If you want to stop and stretch your legs, the charming towns of Cochrane or Canmore are perfect for a wander or to grab a bite to eat. After checking into your hotel in Banff, enjoy some free time to explore the area. You could hike to Johnston Canyon, unwind in the Banff Upper Hot Springs, or explore Banff National Park.

In the evening, join your guide for a sunset and stars walking tour within the national park. Watch the sun slowly set over the mountains, casting the rugged peaks in a golden glow as you follow the 3.5-mile (5 km) trail. When darkness falls, turn on your headlamp and journey deeper into the park in search of nocturnal creatures, such as coyotes, foxes, and owls. When the stars make an appearance, your guide will point out the glittering constellations away from city lights. After a couple of hours, you'll return to your hotel.

Day 3: Guided Tour of Banff, Sulphur Mountain Gondola Ride

Take the Gondola up Sulphur Mountain for sweeping views of the rugged peaks

Explore more of Banff today, this time on a guided tour of the town's landmarks, starting at the UNESCO-listed Fairmont Banff Springs, to admire the castle-like exterior. Continue to nearby Bow Falls to watch Bow River cascade over a series of rocky ledges into a turquoise pool below. Stroll down one of the surrounding trails to admire the falls from different vantage points before continuing to the Surprise Corner Viewpoint. It's a great spot to capture a photo of the surrounding forests, tranquil river, and iconic hotel you visited earlier.

Your last stop is Lake Minnewanka, a glacial lake renowned for its crystal-clear waters and scenic mountain vistas. Wander down one of the surrounding trails or book a boat cruise to learn about the lake's history. After the tour, make your way to the Banff Gondola for a ride up Sulphur Mountain. Enjoy panoramic views of rugged peaks, lush forests, and alpine lakes at the summit while you soak up the fresh mountain air. Learn about the area's history and geology at the Interpretive Centre, or grab a bite to eat at the mountaintop restaurant while you enjoy the unparalleled views.

Day 4: Guided Tour of Lake Louise & Moraine Lake, Drive to Jasper

Follow Rockpile Trail to a viewpoint of Moraine Lake and the Valley of the Ten Peaks

Spend your last few hours in Banff on a guided tour of some of the national park's glacial lakes, starting 40 minutes outside town at the iconic Lake Louise. The lake's turquoise waters and the towering peaks that encircle it make for quite the view as you wander along the shoreline. You'll also see the 1.86-mile (3 km) long Victoria Glacier and iconic Fairmont Château Lake Louise. Your next stop is Moraine Lake within the Valley of the Ten Peaks. There's plenty to admire here, but invest in a short walk up Rockpile Trail and you'll be rewarded with an elevated view of the surroundings.

Those visiting between mid-July and mid-August can witness rolling alpine meadows covered in a kaleidoscope of wildflowers, but the landscape is beautiful year-round. As you walk, enjoy views of the surrounding peaks and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like deer, squirrels, and chipmunks. If you want a more relaxed day after your long drive, tee off at the 18-hole championship golf course at Sun Peaks Resort instead or unwind in one of the luxurious spas. In the evening, return to town to visit one of the casual eateries or up-scale restaurants for dinner.
