It truly means a lot to me to hear that your experience in Japan exceeded your expectations. From the very beginning of the planning process to the final day of your journey, it was my pleasure to help create this special trip for you.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed your time with Dolly, Hiroshi, Taka, and Peter. I will be sure to share your feedback with them—they will be thrilled to know that they helped make your journey so memorable.

Kyoto and Hiroshima are two of my favorite destinations as well, and I'm so happy that they left such a strong impression on you.

Thank you again for trusting me and our team with your Japan adventure. I sincerely hope this won't be your last visit to Asia! Whether you decide to return to Japan one day or perhaps explore China in the future, I would be honored to help you plan another unforgettable journey.

Everything tour wise went great, each guide met us in our lobby and had local/native knowledge of the areas we toured. I asked each day if the driver would eat lunch with us, and was told no, and that I should not get him a lunch from the restaurant. That felt strange to me.

So much of the history has burned down and been rebuilt, but it was neat to see things that had survived

I'm so glad to hear you had a great trip and that the knife-making experience and gold leaf chopsticks were some of your favorite activities. It’s also wonderful that you enjoyed seeing all the beautiful woodwork around Takayama.

I'm happy that four of the five hotels worked out well for you. Thank you for your honest feedback about the Hyatt Kanazawa. Kanazawa is a smaller city with fewer hotel options, so I chose it for its boutique style and location, but I'll definitely keep your comments in mind for future trips.

As for the drivers and lunch, I understand why that felt a bit strange. In Japan, guides and drivers usually eat separately and take care of their own meals, so that is completely normal. In some ways, it's similar to tipping—while your gesture was very thoughtful and appreciated, it isn't generally expected as part of the local culture.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time exploring Japan’s rich history and culture, and I’m glad the local guides were able to share their knowledge, stories, and insights along the way to bring each destination to life. Experiences like these often help create a deeper connection with the places you visit.

It was a pleasure helping you plan this trip, and I’d be happy to help with your next adventure whenever you're ready!

She arranged our train tickets, coordinated activities, and handled so many details that made the entire trip stress-free.

What really set her apart was the support her and her team provided while we were actually in Japan. Whenever we had questions or needed guidance, we could reach out through WhatsApp and receive quick, helpful assistance. It truly felt like we had someone looking out for us every step of the way.

Leny is incredibly kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about creating meaningful travel experiences. Thanks to her, my daughter and I were able to enjoy an unforgettable trip together and make memories that will last a lifetime. Her attention to detail, responsiveness, and personal touch made all the difference. Hi Julie,

Welcome back home! I hope you're recovering nicely from the jet lag.

Thank you for the opportunity to help plan your short family adventure to Japan. It was a pleasure working with you in planning this trip, and I'm so happy to hear that you had such a wonderful time together.

Thank you as well for your kind words. Knowing that the activities matched your children's interests and that the trip helped create special family memories means a lot to me. I understand how daunting it can feel traveling to a country where you don't speak the language, especially on a first visit, and so far from home. Using KimKim was one of the best decisions I made when planning a trip to Japan for my son and I. It was so nice to not have to agonize over which hotel to stay at, which train to take, which sites I should go see, and many other very important/stressful things I didn’t have to worry about since Bella ( my trip planner at KimKim) had already taken care of it. She was wonderful to work with the entire way through my trip. She was super flexible when I realized my 15 year old son and I needed more flexibility than having an actual guide with us everyday midway through our trip, she pivoted and was able to give us all the reservations for us to explore alone, rather than with a guide. They booked so many cool experiences for us that I wouldn’t even know existed ( kimono wearing tea ceremony, monkey park, romantic train, water front shrine in Hakone). We loved our guides we did have- big thank you’s to Yo and Frank for making our trip stress free, informative, and lots of fun. Bella, Yo, and Frank made my son’s and my trip to Japan so much fun and not at all stressful, and for that I cannot thank them enough! I would use kimkim again in a heartbeat!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review!

Reading your comments truly made my day. 😊 It was an absolute pleasure helping you and William plan this adventure, and I'm so happy to hear that the trip turned out to be everything you hoped for.

One of the things I appreciated most was how flexible and open you were throughout the journey. Travel plans don't always stay exactly the same once you're on the ground, and I'm glad we were able to adjust things to better fit your travel style and give you and William the freedom to explore at your own pace.

I'll be sure to share your kind words with Yo and Frank. They will be delighted to know that they helped make your trip stress-free, informative, and fun. Reviews like yours mean so much to our guides and team members, and they are a wonderful recognition of their hard work.

Thank you again for trusting us with such a special trip. It was truly a pleasure being part of your family's Japan adventure, and I hope the memories you and William made together will last a lifetime.

We would be honored to help you plan your next journey whenever you're ready to return to Japan or a new Journey to China!

We went to Japan for 11 days. I will not lie to you and tell you that I was not nervous. However, been with kimkim made this so easy. We had amazing guides who all spoke English justice fluently as I do. We had drivers Medicine train stations and airports. They would not leave until they were ensured that we were checked into the hotel. I have not had a more seamless vacation in the United States and to have this kind of experience in a foreign country was nothing more than a miracle. I cannot tell you how skeptical I was about this, but our tour guide, Hal, in Tokyo had spent 12 years in Houston. Our tour guide in Kyoto, Khang, was actually in the United States Navy and grew up in California. Our tour guide in Osaka had spent eight years in United States. Not only do they speak the language, but they also helped us negotiate prices on things we were trying to buy. For example, my wife wanted to buy a fairly pricey purse at one of the resale shops in our tour guide, not only recognized that we were being up charged than negotiated down the price. I wish that I had done this years ago. If this is what traveling the world was like, then I have absolutely no reservation reservations.

Imperial Hotel Osaka

My wife actually believed this is the best hotel we stayed in during our 12 day trip to Japan. However, I felt it was somewhat dated.. however, we always get two rooms for our family, one for our kids and one for us. They actually had a giant suite that allow us to have one key card access to main hallway that then it had both rooms attached. I’ve never seen that before. The staff was incredibly kind. The breakfast was amazing. I had no problems with being an English only speaker. I would say here again without any reservation. The only thing I would state is that it’s relatively far away from the train station. If you were hellbent on using public transportation, it’s gonna take a little while, but it’s only 30 minutes with an Uber from the bullet train..

Wow! This hotel is stunning. I typically stay at the Omni or the Ritz Carlton in the United States. The staff, cleanliness, comfort of the rooms with a fan, the mini bar, and the in-house restaurants are amazing. Furthermore, I had no trouble as an English speaker only in the hotel. Their breakfast is awesome and I highly recommend you buy it. My only regret is that we didn’t stay here longer

The recommended tours and activities were pretty good, they didn't feel particularly geared for children (like the ramen cooking class started with a 20 minute lecture on ramen, which isn't really what kids want) even though we had specifically requested them for kids.
I would have liked more direction on what we should be doing, there was very little of that, just booking what we asked, maybe that's all they are supposed to do but it would have been nice to have some guidance. For example, I showed the itinerary to a friend who pointed out we didn't have Fushimi Inari in our plans for Kyoto but KimKim never mentioned this at all.
Overall, it was executed fine, communication with the local specialist was good and easy in the app, but for the very high price (they mark up all the tours extravagantly AND charge you a fee which is a percentage of the marked-up tours), I think I was looking for something more.

Hi Ceri,

Welcome back home!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm pleased to hear that the arrangements were generally executed as planned and that communication throughout your trip was smooth and easy.

I want to apologize again for the delayed driver. Following our investigation with the local partner, we were informed that a significant traffic accident had affected the route that morning, resulting in the driver arriving approximately 30 minutes late. While I completely understand your frustration, I would note that such delays are quite rare in Japan, where punctuality is generally held in very high regard. In fact, the same partner successfully handled your station pick-up and drop-off in Kyoto for your NINTENDO Museum visit.

While the accident and resulting traffic disruption were outside of our control, I agree that a clearer explanation should have been provided at the time of the delay. For that, we apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Regarding the activities, I appreciate your comments about their suitability for children. The experiences incorporated are based on the interests shared, family suitability, and availability. I completely understand your point regarding the lengthy introduction during the ramen experience, as younger travelers are often more interested in the hands-on portion. This is valuable feedback, and I will share it with our partner for future consideration. It would also have been helpful to receive more feedback during the planning process regarding the level of child-focused engagement you were seeking, as this would have allowed me to explore alternative options or tailor recommendations more closely to your children's interests and expectations.

As for Fushimi Inari, it is certainly one of Kyoto's most iconic attractions. However, it is also one of the most crowded sites in Japan, particularly during peak travel periods. When designing itineraries, I try to balance famous landmarks with overall enjoyment, comfort, and pace, especially for families traveling with children. Rather than focusing solely on checking off well-known sights, my goal is to create a more enjoyable and less crowded experience. That said, I appreciate that it may have been something you would have liked to include, and I could have highlighted it as an optional visit.

Regarding value, I would respectfully note that my role extends far beyond simply booking tours. The service includes researching and designing a customized itinerary, recommending accommodations and experiences, coordinating with multiple suppliers, managing reservations, arranging transportation logistics, making adjustments throughout the planning process, and providing support before and during the trip. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it is intended to create a seamless travel experience and save travelers a significant amount of time and effort in planning a complex trip independently. This approach has been reflected in the experiences of many of my past travelers, who have shared positive feedback not only about the destinations they visited but also about the planning support, recommendations, and assistance provided throughout their journey.

Thank you again for your honest feedback and for trusting me with your family's trip. I appreciate the opportunity to have helped plan this trip, and I will certainly keep your comments in mind when working with future families.

Warm regards,
Leny

Osaka Excel Hotel Tokyu
Osaka

The Osaka Excel Hotel Tokyu was clean and had great amenities, but it felt too corporate, making it feel like any other modern hotel you'd find in a city. It lacked the authentic Japanese experience I was hoping for. I would have preferred a hotel with more local charm and character rather than a generic business-like atmosphere.

Kyoto

The Blossom Kyoto was very elegant, but it had a very corporate and sleek hotel feel which seemed out of place for an authentic Japanese experience. It felt like staying in a modern high-rise that could be in any major city, rather than a location-specific accommodation. I would have preferred a smaller, more intimate place with a genuine local feel.

The Osaka Local Foodie Tour in Dotonbori and Shinsekai was enjoyable with a delightful guide, but the food didn’t quite live up to our expectations as foodies. Our 15-day trip to Japan was incredible, and Marii made the entire planning process easy and stress-free. She provided great suggestions that we incorporated into our itinerary, and we loved how the trip included a little bit of everything—from traditional cultural experiences to modern attractions.

The tours were fantastic and gave us a well-rounded experience of Japan. Highlights included a tea ceremony, a food tour, and exploring different regions and aspects of Japanese culture. We also appreciated having free time built into the itinerary, along with Marii's excellent recommendations for places to visit, restaurants to try, and activities to enjoy on our own.

I would also like to recognize the wonderful guides we had throughout our trip. Every guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and welcoming. They made us feel comfortable from the start and helped create memorable experiences in each destination.

One of the highlights of our trip was our tour of Hakone and Mt. Fuji with Masashige. He took us to several beautiful viewpoints to see Mt. Fuji and shared fascinating information along the way. Seeing Mt. Fuji from these locations was truly unforgettable and one of the biggest highlights of our trip.

We were also pleasantly surprised by Kanazawa and Hiroshima. These destinations offered a different pace and were less crowded, allowing us to experience another side of Japan. Yoshiko, our guide in Kanazawa, and Lisa, our guide in Hiroshima, made these tours especially meaningful through their knowledge, storytelling, and passion for the local history and culture.

Another guide who left a lasting impression was Moeka during our Kyoto Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Garden Tour. She had such wonderful energy and thoughtfully took us to quieter locations before visiting the bamboo forest. One of the most memorable parts of the tour was learning traditional calligraphy. She wrote our names in Katakana and guided us as we practiced writing them ourselves. It was a relaxing, unique, and unforgettable experience.

Hakone also deserves a special mention. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and being surrounded by mountains and nature was the perfect way to slow down, disconnect, and appreciate Japan's natural beauty. It quickly became one of our favorite places on the trip.

All hotel, transportation, and activity information was easy to access. We experienced a couple of minor issues with Shinkansen tickets and a chopstick-making reservation, but Marii and her team responded immediately and resolved everything quickly. Their communication throughout the trip was excellent, including helpful reminders and detailed instructions before each tour, which made navigating Japan much easier.

Everyone we worked with was kind, knowledgeable, and professional. It was clear that a lot of care and attention went into planning our trip. Thanks to Marii and her team, our trip was smooth, well-organized, and truly unforgettable. We enjoyed every minute of it and highly recommend Marii and her team to anyone planning a trip to Japan.

From the very beginning of the planning process, you guys were such a positive, kind, and enthusiastic couple. It was genuinely a pleasure for me to help create this journey with you, and I feel very fortunate that our paths crossed.

What made this trip special is that it was truly a collaborative effort. You both had a clear vision of the experiences you wanted, and you always took the time to research my suggestions and thoughtfully consider how they fit into your travel style. I do not doubt that your openness, curiosity, and preparation were a big part of why the trip was such a success.

Thank you for trusting me and my team with your adventure in Japan. It brings me so much joy to know that you created wonderful memories here.

Our trip to Japan was everything we hoped for and more, thanks to the incredible planning and support from Peter at KimKim and Emi at Oshinobi Travels. Every tour, every guide, and every experience felt thoughtfully curated and perfectly matched to what our family enjoys.

From the moment we arrived, each outing ran smoothly and gave us a deeper appreciation for Japan’s culture, history, and everyday life. Our guides were not only knowledgeable, but also warm, engaging, and genuinely excited to share their country with us. Whether we were exploring ancient temples/shrines, wandering through vibrant neighborhoods, or learning the stories behind iconic landmarks, each guide added personal touches that made the experience unforgettable.

We especially loved how every tour felt unique. Some days were filled with rich historical context and beautiful architecture; others were more relaxed and focused on food, local markets, or hidden gems we never would have found on our own. No matter the setting, our guides made the day feel special, and we walked away from each outing with new insights and wonderful memories. We had different guides at the different locations and activities but here is a list of all those wonderful guides that made us feel welcome and appreciated - Peco and Ryoma in Kyoto, Yuuki, Tadashi, Masa, Manabu and our shushi chef Nobu in Tokyo.

KimKim’s coordination was seamless from start to finish. The itinerary was full with lots of activities and walking, but communication was excellent, and every detail — transportation, timing, tickets, and transitions — was handled with care. It allowed us to simply enjoy Japan without stress or guesswork.

This was one of our favorite international trips, and KimKim played a huge role in making it so meaningful. We’re grateful for the expertise, kindness, and professionalism of everyone involved, and we wouldn’t hesitate to use KimKim again for future adventures.

Cross Hotel Kyoto

This hotel is located near a lot of restaurants and shopping. It was a great location for us to do our day trips during our time in Kyoto. The beds were firm but comfortable. The room was nice and had everything that we needed during our stay. The breakfasts were very good. The concierge was very helpful for a couple of things that we needed during our stay. This is a more modern place to stay but we were right at home here.

We loved this hotel. It was our favorite of the places we stayed in Japan because the room was the most comfortable and more spacious. The breakfast buffets were very good (they do get crowded) and just what we needed to start our day. Great views of the city from our room on the 23rd floor. Easy to walk to all types of food, shopping and gaming.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. It was very comfortable and they treated us very nicely upon arrival. The breakfast buffet was one of our favorites during our trip to Japan. I wish we had more time at this location but this was just a one night stay that allowed us to get settled before our transfer to Kyoto.

When you check in, there is a beautiful garden and they serve you tea while you are checking in.

It was convenient to a lot of restaurants and activites.

Our sushi‑making class with Nobu was a wonderful experience. He taught us about the different types of sushi and guided us step‑by‑step as we made several varieties ourselves. Nobu was funny, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable, and his expertise made the class both educational and fun. Best of all, we got to enjoy the delicious sushi we created. This was a highlight of our trip, and we highly recommend it.

Our guided tour of Tokyo with Masa was excellent. He asked what we were most interested in and tailored the day perfectly. After enjoying beautiful city views from a high‑rise observation deck, he took us shopping for Harry Potter, Pokémon, and Star Wars merchandise — a big hit for our family. We had a delicious lunch at a shopping center, where we enjoyed ramen and dumplings, and then spent the afternoon walking through the Emperor’s grounds, taking in the peaceful scenery and learning about the history of the area.

Our bar‑hopping evening in Tokyo with Tadashi was outstanding. He took us to three very different local restaurants, each with its own style and specialties. We started with incredible Wagyu beef and sake — both seared and served in a bowl of noodles — and Tadashi, being a sushi chef, explained every dish and drink in wonderful detail. The second stop focused on fresh seafood, sushi‑style, and the final restaurant featured Okinawan cuisine with delicious pork dishes. The beer at the last stop was pretty good, especially mixed with the fruit juices. We ended the night with Blue Seal sugar cane ice cream, which was absolutely heavenly. Tadashi was warm, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience fun and memorable. We highly recommend this tour.

Quality of Experience
Really enjoyed getting to sample 3 different types of Japanese food and the different beverages.

Tadashi was great. Since he is a sushi chef as well, his expertise was appreciated and his ability to detail the food and beverages were phenomenal.

Our Akihabara tour with Yuuki was fantastic. He took the time to learn what our son likes and brought us to shops that carried merchandise from his favorite games. He even helped our son track down a specific Pokémon card he wanted for his collection, which made the day extra special. Yuuki also took us through several arcades and played games with us, which made the experience fun and interactive. For lunch, he brought us to a revolving sushi restaurant that was a hit with all of us. Yuuki was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire tour feel personalized and enjoyable. We highly recommend this experience.

Yuuki tailored this to our son's gaming likes and helped him find Pokemon cards that he really wanted to add to his collection.

We had a fantastic day in Nara with Peco, even with the rain. She guided us through the beautiful temple grounds and gardens, and we loved getting to see — and feed — the famous Nara deer. Peco shared great stories and history throughout the day, making each stop feel meaningful. She took us to a cozy local restaurant for lunch, where we enjoyed delicious food, and later introduced us to a sake tasting that was a fun surprise. We ended the day riding the bullet train back, which was a great experience in itself. On the ride to Nara, we experienced the special train that was very comfortable and relaxing. Peco was warm, knowledgeable, and made the entire day enjoyable despite the weather. We highly recommend this tour.

Quality of Experience
Wonderful. We learned a lot and Peco was great at taking us to places that we could not have found on our own.

We had a great time visiting the Samurai Ninja Museum. This was a very informative experience. We were guided from the 3rd floor down to the 2nd floor to see different information on the history of the Samurai and Ninjas. *Private Hiking tour around a Hidden Route of Fushimi Inari Taisha with a Local Lunch
Kyoto

Our hidden‑route hike at Fushimi Inari with Ryoma was outstanding. He guided us through a quiet bamboo forest used for harvesting, then led us up a much less crowded path to the mountaintop — steep steps, but beautiful and peaceful. Along the way, we even met a carpenter who helps maintain the shrines, which made the experience feel truly special. The carpenter even allowed us to try our hand at planing a board using a hand tool. At the summit, Ryoma helped us make an offering at the shrine, explaining each step clearly. After the hike, he took us to a family‑owned restaurant that’s been in business for over 116 years, where we enjoyed a traditional Japanese meal sitting on the floor. We ended the day with delicious matcha ice cream.

Quality of Experience
This was a great experience and we really enjoyed meeting the carpenter along the tour. He allowed us to try planing using his old fashioned method with hand tools. Great opportunity to see a craftsman at work.
Food
The restaurant was excellent. One of our favorite meals (soba noodles).
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Ryoma was fantastic. He was patient with us as we struggled on some of the steep climbing portions and was very encouraging.
Transport
We walked for this tour. We did not have private transportation.

Our private tour of Arashiyama with Peco was fantastic. She guided us on a beautiful hike up the mountain to see the monkeys, and the views over Kyoto were incredible. We visited several shrines along the way, each with its own story that Peco explained so well. One of our favorite moments was walking through the peaceful garden of a home once owned by a famous Japanese movie star — a spot we never would have found on our own. Peco was warm, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience feel effortless. We loved every part of this tour and highly recommend it.

Quality of Experience
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Our guide, Peco was outstanding. She has great energy. She took time to get to know us and find out what we like so she could tailor the experience to us.
Transport
We had a private driver that took us to the monkey park. He was very good. From there, we took taxis to the gardens and then back to the hotel. The private drivers are wonderful and they have very nice vehicles. The taxi drivers are Ok but the vehicles are not nearly as nice as the private transportation.
