Nicola Brown
Born in the UK and now living in Canada, I have been traveling and writing about travel as far back as I can remember. From early family trips to places as different as France and the United Arab Emirates, to university backpacking adventures in Italy and Greece, to journalistic expeditions through India, Colombia and Vietnam, my curiosity about the world remains unquenched. Next on my wishlist: Argentina, New Zealand,
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I have traveled extensively to the UK and France, and now live in Toronto in Canada. I write on a broad range of travel topics covering restaurants and hotels to adventure and ecotourism to luxury experiences around the world."
How did you get involved in travel?
"It must be in the genes. My late father loved geography as a boy at school and went on to shape a career that enabled him to travel and work in over 45 countries. He had more stamina than most 20-year-olds I've met and was always ready to hop on a plane in pursuit of the next adventure. The apple doesn't fall far, as they say."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"Exploring the rocky cliffs of Naxos on scooters, we stopped to take a closer look at a small remote village in the centre of the island. No sooner had we parked our scooters than a man emerged, arms outstretched, asking us to sit down and eat. He vanished inside a tiny white building, reemerging with an enormous platter of olives, bread, cheeses and olive oil. Some of the best I've ever tasted. And wine. And more wine. Gradually the little eatery began to fill with family bringing a big homemade pot of pasta, insisting we sit and eat together with them. Music, dancing, and more wine. When we tried to pay for what we'd been given, our insistence was firmly refused. We left giddy with surprise, pure joy, and memories I will never forget. When things get tough, remembering the kindness of strangers is what keeps me going."
