Siobhan O'Halleran
I'm a London-born freelance travel writer living in the English countryside.
On my travels, you'll usually find me where the wild things are: spotting big cats on safari, watching dolphins ride the bow wave, walking to a breathtaking viewpoint or driving under big skies. If I'm in a city, chances are I’ll be checking out a legendary bookshop or beautiful old building.
It’s my job to get across what a place or experience is really like, to inspire you to get out there and have your own unforgettable trips.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I love the freedom of backpacking and campervanning, and I’ve also been lucky enough to stay at some of the world’s most luxurious hotels, so my travel expertise is a bit of a mixed bag.
I specialise in Africa safaris, road trips in Australia and the American Southwest, adventures around South-East Asia and UK holidays."
How did you get involved in travel?
"After a gap year exploring Southern Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia, I was hooked. My graduate day job – writing about things like five-axis machining – just didn’t cut it anymore, so I made travel my career.
I've been a travel content writer for 12 years. Work has taken me tall-ship sailing around the Caribbean, pyramid-viewing in Egypt, hotel-testing in the UK, island-hopping in the Indian Ocean and self-driving around South Africa. If I haven’t been somewhere, I’ve probably spent time researching it."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"A seaplane ride over the Great Barrier Reef – flying above Heart Reef, strolling along Whitehaven Beach and then landing inside one of the reefs to snorkel with turtles. A beautiful day, even though I looked like a Smurf in my bright blue full-body stinger suit."
