The Verdon Gorge is the largest canyon in Europe and is a prime destination for outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and rafting. Driving (with a rental car or with a private driver) is the best way to get there, and most travelers come from either Marseille or Nice, both of which are about three hours away.

From Marseille

Duration: 2 to 3 hours

Marseille is 60 miles (95 km) away from the Verdon Gorge, and the driving distance is about 95 miles/150 km. Take the A51 highway towards Aix-en-Provence—which is a great place to stop—and get off the highway at exit 17. From there you'll drive on the D952, which is also called Route des Gorges, until your destination.

From Nice

Duration: 2 to 3 hours

Nice is 86 miles (138 km) from the Verdon Gorge, and the driving distance is 95 miles/150 km. Your easiest option is to take the A8 highway until exit 36, and then continue on the D54 towards Castellane, which is at the northern end of the Verdon Gorge. You can also book a private tour or transfer to take you from Nice to the Verdon Gorge.
