To get to the Terracotta Warriors from Hong Kong, travelers must first go to Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, and then travel another 45 minutes or so to the Terracotta Warriors via private transfer or bus.
In addition, a tourist visa may be required to travel from the former British colony of Hong Kong to China, which has separate immigration and customs procedures from Hong Kong. Depending on your country of citizenship and your itinerary, you may be eligible to travel in China for up to 72 hours without a visa via China's 72-hour Transit Visa Exemption or for up to six days without a visa via the 144-hour Travel Visa Exemption.
Once in Xi'an, it's best to book a day tour or hire a driver and guide so you can go at your own pace. Expect a full-day adventure, from early morning to late afternoon/early evening, but it is possible to visit the Terracotta Warriors in half a day if you are pressed for time. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as the walk from the parking lot is just over half a mile (1 km) from the entrance. There is a tram, but often there is a long queue.
Most multi-city tours of China include a stop in Xi'an in northwest China like the 8-Day China Golden Triangle Tour, 11-Day China's Highlights Tour, 12-Day Highlights from Shanghai to Beijing Tour, and 13-Day Best of China Tour.

The most direct and convenient way to get from Hong Kong to Xi'an is to fly and then take a private transfer. The 888-mile (1,430 km) journey takes three hours. Flying between the two cities is a breeze, particularly because most major airlines allow passengers to check-in 90-minutes to one full day before their flights at Hong Kong MRT Station and Kowloon MTR Station.
There are more than a dozen daily flights from Hong Kong International Airport to Xi'an Xianyang International Airport although some intrepid travelers consider traveling from Hong Kong to Shenzhen and then flying from Shenzhen Boa'an International Airport to Xi'an Xianyang International Airport.
From Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, a private driver can drive you in just under an hour to the Terracotta Warriors, which are 42 miles (68 km) from the airport.
By Train
Duration: 9.5-12 hours (train) + 45 minutes to transfer by car to the Terracotta Warriors
There isn't direct, nonstop train service from Hong Kong to Xi'an. Rather, travelers must take a high-speed train from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station or Shenzhen North Railway Station and then transfer to a high-speed train headed to Xi'an North Railway Station.
Passengers traveling by bullet train from Hong Kong to China should arrive early to check in and clear customs and immigration for Hong Kong and China, which are completed on the Hong Kong side. Passengers traveling on the overnight train from Hung Hon Station should also arrive early to check in and clear customs and immigration in Hong Kong; passengers will go through China's immigration process upon arrival in Beijing. Most trains have a food serving counter or dining car with simple fare like xīhóngshì chǎo jīdàn (scrambled eggs with tomatoes) and there are hot water dispensers to use for making instant noodles, coffee, and tea.
Once in Xi'an, there is a free shuttle bus for high-speed train passengers to the Terracotta Warriors, but you must show your train ticket and buy an entrance ticket to the Terracotta Warriors for the same day as your train travel (you can buy tickets at the Tourist Service Center inside the train station) before boarding the free shuttle bus.
If you don't want to worry about being led astray or wait for the shuttle bus, which leaves every hour, you can hire a taxi or a private driver, who can drive you in under an hour to the Terracotta Warriors, which are 27 miles (45 km) from the train station.
By Private Transfer from Xi'an

It is possible to take tourist buses from the East Square of Xi’an Railway Station or from Tang Paradise West Gate and Giant Wild Goose Pagoda to the Terracotta Warriors, which are 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Xi'an, but for a stress-free and quicker route that doesn't include testing your Chinese skills, hire a private driver for the day to take you to the Terracotta Warriors.
