By Car
Duration: 45 minutes
Driving is straightforward and the most convenient option. You’ll begin on the A2 toll highway and shortly after beginning your journey, you’ll cross the Tagus river via the Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge that looks like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. As you near the other side-on your left-hand side-you’ll see the Santuário Nacional de Cristo Rei (National Sanctuary of Christ the King).
Having a car to get around to visit-towns, natural sites, wineries, beaches, and hiking trails- will make your trip a lot easier as some places aren’t as accessible without a car.
There are alternative routes if you want to avoid paying tolls and won’t take much longer to reach this natural park.
On many main highways in Portugal, there is a section where you can register your car before proceeding to the toll booth. Most tolls are electronic-connecting your license plate number to your credit card number.

Taking the bus is an option. Buses will bring you to specific towns within the Natural Park. Bus company TST-Transportes Sul de Tejo-operates buses from Lisbon to Sesimbra with a journey time around an hour, depending on traffic.
Buses depart from Praça Espanha where there is a bus stop. You can purchase your ticket on-board. Keep in mind timetables are reduced on weekends. Another option is to go to the town of Setubál with a few bus routes operated by TST.
In the summer months, June-September, a special bus is operated from Lisbon to Setubál for those who want to enjoy the beaches without the hassle of driving and parking.
