What you'll do
Your destination is the charming town of Los Pedrones, a one-hour drive, where you'll meet the three brothers who manage the most authentic cheese factory in the area. They use top-quality goat's milk from their goats, raised in a peaceful, natural environment. And in their unique caves, they produce cheese with distinctive flavors resulting from their signature, handmade process.
After a warm welcome from the brothers, you'll get started with the cheesemaking workshop. You'll learn to make cheese like a pro and create your own batch to take home as a souvenir. Then, you'll visit the caves where the cheese is kept and learn about the cheesemaking process, including different types of milk used, necessary equipment, and the process stages. You'll also visit the cheese maturing room, where the product develops its unique flavor and texture.
After the tour, it's time to taste! You'll be guided through tasting locally produced cheeses, from soft and creamy to sharp and tangy. Your guide will teach you about the characteristics of each cheese and how they differ, and you'll taste varieties you can't find anywhere else. You'll also learn about the history of cheese production in Valencia and the unique characteristics of the region's products.
At this point, you're probably ready for some wine. You'll drive about 30 minutes to Vera de Estenas Winery in the town of Utiel and explore the vineyards and the winery with the owner, Edu. He'll tell you about the winemaking process and his facilities. Enjoy a guided tasting of three different wines, accompanied by local sausages. You'll taste the region's most famous wines, including the Bobal variety, one of the oldest in history. At the end of the excursion, you'll drive roughly 45 minutes and return to Valencia.
