What you'll do

Your foodie journey through the whitewashed streets of Firostefani and Santorini's capital, Fira, begins at St. Gerasimos Square, next to the Santorini map wall art. Your expert guide will meet you and, after a brief introduction, take you for a quick Greek coffee to kick off the walk. After a caffeine hit, it's time to stroll along the edge of the Santorini caldera—take in the enchanting views of Europe's largest volcanic caldera (which is twice as big as Manhattan) as you head toward Fira.

Once you arrive in Fira, enjoy a cold beer and follow your guide through the narrow streets. You'll make at least seven stops in all, including at street food stalls, locally-owned restaurants, and typical tavernas. Sample the famous Greek fast food, souvlaki (skewered grilled meat and vegetables), as well as meze dishes like dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) with dips like hummus and tzatziki (yogurt with cucumber and garlic). You'll also get to sample Cycladic cheeses and cold cuts and take part in an olive oil tasting. Learn about the various types of Greek oil, their production, and their significance in Greek cooking.

Next, stop in a traditional Greek taverna for a meal with volcanic views, enjoy a glass of wine, and finish with a sugary dessert of loukoumades (Greek doughnuts served with honey). Over all, you'll cover about 1.5 miles (2.5 km) along Fira's and Firostefani's cobbled streets, steps, and footpaths, and end at Agiou Athanasiou, where you'll say goodbye after receiving a parting gift.
