Overview

Discover the mythical Cave of Hercules, which sits on a rocky outcrop along the Atlantic coast, separating two of the area's most popular beaches. Experts believe that the Phoenicians created the cave, and when seen against the Atlantic horizon, its outline resembles the shape of the African continent.

The caves make an excellent day trip from Tangier, especially when combined with a visit to Cap Spartel and its scenic lighthouse. Walk to the top for stunning views across the water at the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Straight of Gibraltar. You can also visit Achakkar Beach to the north or Sidi Kacem Beach to the south or explore the cave when traveling between Tangier and Rabat or Tangier and Casablanca.
