Three-District Evening Tapas Walk, Barcelona

4.1 (8 reviews)
Discover the neighborhoods of Gothic Quarter, Barceloneta, and El Born with an evening tapas tour paired with local drinks.

Overview

An evening tapear (tapas walk) is a quintessential night out in Spain, and as one of the country's top culinary cities, Barcelona is an excellent choice for a food tour. With the help of local experts, you'll stroll the streets of Barcelona's favorite neighborhoods, ducking into alleys leading to beloved tapas spots to taste a range of typical dishes. Each district has a theme, so you'll start with cheese and meats in the Gothic Quarter, transition to seafood by the beach in Barceloneta, then end with traditional Catalan plates in El Born. At each stop, pair your bites with sips of local wine, beer, or non-alcoholic drinks.

Highlights

  • Explore the side streets and local spots of three Barcelona neighborhoods
  • Stop at three restaurants, one in the Gothic Quarter, one in Barceloneta, and one in El Born
  • Taste lots of delicious tapas, including Iberian ham, patron pepper, octopus, etc.
  • Enjoy local wine, beer, or wine at each stop

What you'll do

On this stroll through Barcelona, you'll follow a local guide through the history of Catalan food culture, visiting three of the city's neighborhoods and stopping along the way to try traditional dishes. Immerse yourself in Barcelona's libertine spirit by grabbing a seat in bars, restaurants, and shops to enjoy platillos, tapas, wine, beer, and plenty of laughs and stories. You'll enjoy a mix of tradition and modernity, ending the evening with an understanding of Spanish gastronomy and discovering just how eclectic Catalan cuisine can be.

You'll start the night in the Gothic Quarter, one of the most notable districts of Barcelona, filled with winding cobbled streets, hidden corners, and plenty of history. Here is where you'll learn about the importance of Spanish ham, a product that residents have enjoyed for centuries and now export worldwide. You've probably heard of Jamón ibérico, but you'll also try other types of ham and sausage, perfectly paired with various kinds of cheese and regional red wine. The setting: one of the oldest delis in Barcelona, filled with charm and entertaining stories.

Next, head to the city's coastal neighborhood, known as Barceloneta. This old fisher's district continues to pay homage to its past, especially its culinary scene. You'll try plenty of dishes from the sea, including tapas made with octopus, mussels, anchovies, and baby squid, plus the always-popular prawn croquettes. Pair it all with a refreshing beer or crisp white wine.

For the final stop, you'll make your way to El Born, another historic neighborhood bordering the Gothic Quarter and Barceloneta. Learn how this district has combined history with hip and modern dining, becoming the foodie center of Barcelona. Taste some of the most traditional dishes in Catalonia and Spain, including Russian salad, huevos rotos, pintxos, patron peppers, and more. Pair your bites with a drink of your choice, and end your food tour with something sweet.

This tour concludes when some of the best spots open in El Born, a vibrant district with exceptional nightlife, breweries, and wine and cocktail bars. Your guide is happy to recommend a place to grab a nightcap that fits your interests.

It was a great over view of the city. It gave us a sense of where different parts of the city were located.
Jordi was knowledgeable.
We unfortunately were delayed on a flight and traffic so were over tired and very hungry when we started this walking tour so it was a bit hard to focus.

Tips for future travelers

Give yourselves enough time for a short rest if you travel overnight to reach Barcelona and leave room for travel delays.

This was canceled last minute for "operational issues" and they could not provide any more details as to why. The same vendor canceled another activity we had planned as well. We were issued a full refund for both. Read more

We had a few guided walks with Jordi from Color bike company. He was wonderful and very knowledgeable. He brought us to some delicious restaurants and we felt like we saw almost everything in Barcelona over 3 days. He had great recommendations. You can tell he enjoys being a guide and loves to share his culture and the history of Barcelona.

Tips for future travelers

Comfortable walking shoes and bring your appetite.

Had a wonderful night tromping around Barcelona and seeing some of the highlights of the Gothic Quarter. Stopped for Tapas and had so much food! :) The title of the tour made us think it was kind of a Tapas tour instead of being a Tour that Also had Tapas. So that's the only reason for 4 stars because we had different expectations. But was a great night! Read more

Our guide was knowledgeable and very helpful. I might suggest that he drop guests off at a restaurant at the conclusion of the tour and not feel obligated to sit through the meal. It was just a little awkward that we all sat and ate dinner while he watched. Read more

This was our first activity on the day we arrived so it was a great introduction to the area and how dining worked in Barcelona.

Loved our tapas event. Mirko was a great tour guide. Our first thought was to go out eat, drink, and watch flamenco dancing. We were so tired from our trip and he adjusted to our energy. We saw places we would have never visited and wen't back another time too because we loved it so much. We went to three different restaurants and learned about the different types of food, culture, and how the area is divided up. We were so glad to meet him and he was the start of our 9 day trip. Bring an appetite! Such great food and people we got to meet. If you can add on the dancing at the end of the night then do so. Things don't get started till 10:00 PM. We were up for 24 hours and done by 9:00. :)

Quality of Experience
Everything was set up ahead of time. They had a table when we arrived. If we needed anything, Mirko helped us or got it for us. He would call ahead before the next restaurant so they would be ready for us. We learned about what we were eating and what was a common dish in the area. Such a great treat!
Food
The food was delicious. We went from authentic dishes to the new.
