What you'll do

Take a day trip to the white village of Frigiliana, where you'll enjoy a wine-tasting session and a hike through Parque Natural de Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara, y Alhama. Start by meeting your guide in Málaga city center, where you'll board a van for a 45-minute drive through Axarquia, a fertile landscape covered with avocado, mango, and custard-apple trees.

Upon arrival in Frigiliana, take a stroll through this mountain village, which is famed for its Moorish Old Quarter, where the streets are lined with ceramic mosaics and colorful flower pots. As you wander through the narrow, Medieval lanes, your guide will share insights into the town's rich history and point out landmarks like the 16th-century Renaissance palace El Ingenio, now a sugar cane factory.

Continue your walk to the top of town, to the border of Parque Natural de Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara, y Alhama, which features some of the highest mountains in the Axarquia region. Follow an Arabic irrigation canal alongside fields of olive trees, with views of the Río Higuerón and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea in the distance. Your guide will ensure you have plenty of time to pause and appreciate the vistas, snap photos, and discover the area's flora and fauna.

As you hike through the Mediterranean forest, you'll encounter the ruins of the 9th-century Arabic castle, Castillo de Lizar, and more staggering viewpoints. Eventually, the trail loops back to Frigiliana, where you'll head to the town's oldest winery for a tasting experience. Afterward, enjoy free time to roam the village and browse the market for everything from plump avocados to tropical mangos. End with a transfer back to Málaga, soaking up views of the rural scenery.
