What you'll do

Get to know Seville, Andalusia's capital, on a two-hour guided walk around this 2,000-year-old city. Meet your guide and the rest of your small group at Plaza de San Francisco's Fuente de Mercurio (Mercury Fountain) to start with some background information on one of Spain's largest cities. Said to have been founded by Hercules, Seville has since been occupied by the Romans and taken over by the Moors and Vikings before falling into Spanish hands during the Reconquest.

Next, you'll follow your guide to the Catedral de Sevilla, which, along with the Real Alcázar de Sevilla and the Archivo General de Indias, forms part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at the sheer size of the Gothic building, which became the largest cathedral in the world in the 16th century. Then, wander south toward the Alcázar, which predates the cathedral and was used as a filming location for the TV series "Game of Thrones." Nearby, you'll also find Universidad de Sevilla. Founded in the early 16th century, its student population of nearly 60,000 gives the city a youthful atmosphere.

Finally, your historical journey through Seville ends at Plaza de España. Built for the 1929 World's Fair and used in films such as "Star Wars" and "Lawrence of Arabia," Seville's main square is surrounded by a curved structure that exhibits a mix of architectural styles, including Art Deco and Neo-Mudéjar. Although the buildings that make up this structure are now used as government offices, you can still get lost in the intricate details of the many alcoves. Afterward, say adíos to your guide, armed with a new appreciation of this captivating city.
