What you'll do

Your culinary adventure in Kyoto will commence at our state-of-the-art cooking studio, where our Morning Bento Class (9:30-12:30) and Afternoon Izakaya Class (14:00-17:00) are held daily. Here, you will dive into the heart of Japanese cuisine, learning about traditional seasonings and techniques while engaging in fascinating conversations about Kyoto and Japanese culture with our friendly instructors. In the Morning Bento Class, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of essential Japanese dishes like sushi, tempura, and miso soup, as well as the cultural significance of the traditional 'Bento' box. Our experienced instructors will demonstrate and explain the art of crafting these exquisite dishes, and then it's your turn to take the helm. After a session of hands-on cooking, you can savor the flavors of your very own bento lunch. Rest assured, all dietary requirements are catered for; we readily replace meat and fish with vegetable-based alternatives for our vegetarian customers. The Afternoon Izakaya Class offers a deeper dive into the rich spectrum of Japanese home-style cooking. This class is perfect for passionate home cooks who want to expand their culinary horizons. You will learn to prepare a variety of dishes, from vinegar-marinated cucumber and grilled chicken and burdock meatballs to the uniquely Japanese dashi soup-based beef pasta. As in the morning session, vegetarians can expect meat and fish replacements with equally tasty ingredients. This culinary journey operates on a cook-and-eat basis. First, you'll prepare 2-3 dishes, then sit down to enjoy what you've made. Afterward, you'll return to the kitchen to whip up 2-3 more dishes before feasting once more. This engaging, hands-on approach immerses you in the convivial atmosphere of an Izakaya restaurant—a traditional Japanese-style pub known for its cozy ambiance and variety of dishes. To round off your gastronomic exploration, try our optional sake tasting for an additional 500 yen. What better way to toast your newfound culinary skills than with a glass of Japan's signature rice wine! Whether you're a seasoned home cook or a culinary novice, our Kyoto cooking classes offer an unforgettable immersion into the art of Japanese cuisine, promising both delicious food and enriching cultural insight.
