Market Visit & Paella Cooking Class, Valencia

5.0 (3 reviews)

Overview

Enjoy an unforgettable experience in Valencia, the home of Spain's most famous dish (and a global icon) paella. With this experience, you'll immerse yourself in the region's food culture, discover the numerous types of paella, visit city markets, and, eventually, taste your own delicious dish.

Put on your aprons and learn how to prepare an authentic Paella Valenciana on your own with the help of a Spanish chef. You'll make everything from scratch using fresh ingredients and traditional spices. And, of course, you'll eat the paella after you cook, so definitely make sure to arrive on an empty stomach!

Before diving into crafting the famous dish, you'll start with a visit to the vibrant Ruzafa Local Market, where you'll discover surprising seasonal products of the Valencia region. Learn all about local agriculture and the culinary culture of the city, including the history of paella. Next, head to The Mercado Central, one of the oldest municipal markets in Europe to pick up your ingredients for the workshop.

This was a great experience. Guides were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and funny. The market visit was at a smaller market, not Mercat Central, which was okay. In the kitchen after we were all put to work with different tasks to make a traditional Venetian paella, and we had fun with others in the group. It’s the first time I’ve geared tomatoes! This is definitely an experience we can bring home with us to share:) Read more

Tips for future travelers

Definitely do this if you’re interested in having Valencian paella. It was delicious! I think this is better than trying to find it at a restaurant, and you might be able to make it yourself at home.
