What you'll do
Your stroll through Barcelona starts on the city's most famous pedestrian street, Las Ramblas. As you walk, your guide will entertain you with stories of the area's history, stopping at the one-and-only La Boqueria. This market is one of the best in the world and features over 300 stalls selling delicious local and international products, including tapas.
Keep going and pass the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona's opera house and an excellent example of the city's modernist architecture. Another stunning architectural gem is your next stop, Palau Güell, which was the home of the family that commissioned Antoni Gaudí's famed Park Güell. The house's facade is one of the renowned architect's earliest works. Move diagonally through the Old Town as you enter the El Raval neighborhood. Though once considered quite dangerous, this is now one of the city center's most multicultural and authentic districts. Make a photo stop at the Rambla del Raval to pose with the enormous Cat Statue by Fernando Botero.
Next, take the Montjuïc funicular to the top of Montjuïc Hill and enjoy some of the best city views along the way. At the top is where you'll find Montjuïc Castle, once a military fortress established by the Spanish Army. The structure has constantly witnessed the twists and turns of Catalonian and Spanish political power and is home to the dungeons that held several political prisoners throughout history. Your castle tour ends atop the structure's tower as sunset begins. Here you can enjoy 360º views over Barcelona, the perfect photo spot.
Meander through the castle's park and make your way to where the city once hosted the Olympics. You'll view structures like the Olympic Stadium and the Palau Sant Jordi, which now hosts some of Barcelona's best concerts. With your guide, you'll enjoy a break and snack, then continue to the Magic Fountain, a structure built for the 1929 Universal Exhibition (World's Fair). Though meant to be temporary, residents loved it so much that the city decided to keep it. Grab a drink and settle for a beautiful water and light show.

Self-Guided Day Trip: Hike from Vilanova i la Geltrú to Sitges
Self guided ·5 hours
Travelers keen on getting out of the city and into nature with a hike, optional beach time, and a short cultural stroll through a medieval coastal town will appreciate this self-guided itinerary. In just a 40-minute train ride from Barcelona-Sants, you'll arrive in coastal Vilanova i la Geltrú. Here, you'll pick up a segment of Catalonia's long-distance GR 92 coastal trail to follow it into Sitges, another seaside town with a charming historic (and tiny) core.
The route is about 5.3 miles (8.5 km) and should take less than two hours without stopping if you're in good health (this doesn't include the time it takes to get to and from the respective train stations). That said, give yourself at least four hours to enjoy the walk, views, history, culture, and food, and add more time if the weather is fair and you plan to lie out on or swim at one of the protected beaches.
*Note: Upon booking, you'll receive access to the detailed map and step-by-step instructions.

Still, it's best enjoyed in local taverns where bar tenders know the drink and serve it out of a wall of cask barrels. With your guide leading the way, you'll visit a local bar or two and try a few varieties of vermouth paired with several traditional tapas, such as razor clams, patatas bravas, and Jamón.
Self-Guided Horta-Guinardó District Walk
Self guided ·4.5 hours
This walk is for travelers interested in seeing a quieter side of Barcelona most visitors don't experience: the outlying district of Horta-Guinardó. Given Horta-Guinardó's history and location at the base of the Collserola mountain range, there are steps and sloped terrain to contend with (though most of the route avoids the worst of it).
You'll start in one of Europe's most historic gardens before traipsing south through centuries-old neighborhoods, ending at a prominent jewel of Catalan modernista architecture. You'll discover turn-of-the-20th-century villas that once catered to the upper echelons of society and weave your way amid Catalan farmhouses and through narrow streets to near-forgotten corners, home to the people who supported them. Throughout, you'll stop to order authentic Spanish cuisine at two neighborhood haunts.
