What you'll do
You'll start at Park Güell, an ideal spot for an early-morning adventure before the temperatures rise (during the summer) and the crowds arrive. Watch your kids delight in Gaudí's gingerbread-like houses at the main entrance, colorful tile walls and benches using broken mosaics, playful curvy lines, and fantastic walkways, all made to blend in with the surrounding nature.
For families, the highlights of Park Güell are the gingerbread houses, lizard staircase, serpentine bench, covered walkways, and the views of Barcelona. You'll find all these in the Monumental Zone of the park, but you'll also have time to explore the Forest Zone. This is a great area to run around and admire all the endemic and tropical flora planted in the park.
Next, head to the always magical Casa Batlló, home of the legend of Saint George and the dragon. Your kids might notice a dragon theme in Gaudí's work, but this building is where it all comes together. Designed as an apartment block, every kid who visits wants to live here! And who can blame them with quirky details like curved walls, a mushroom fireplace, windows resembling turtles, and a ribcage spiral staircase to the attic?
From top to bottom, the house is an adventure! As you enter, you'll receive an interactive screen to explore the building, where animations and historical photos show you how the rooms initially looked. The roof is always a highlight, with its guardian chimneys and dragon-scale roofing.
Finally, visit Sagrada Família later in the day when the crowds disperse. This is the perfect culmination of Gaudí's boundary-bending work and an inspiration to young minds who will learn that you can be as creative as you want! Kids always like watching the colors change as light pours through the stained glass, staring up at the ceiling made to look like a forest, and visiting the museum downstairs.
This is an excellent spot to end your tour, as kids also enjoy observing the church's exterior and learning how it's still under construction over 100 years later.
The price does not include food/drinks. An additional voluntary donation of €1 per person is recommended for the Giants Museum, a small local project.
