What you'll do

Explore the often-overlooked side of Seville's history with a guided walk examining the lives of important female figures. Meet your guide at the Costurera de la Reina, a 19th-century Neo-Mudéjar castle set on the edge of Parque María Luisa, which has now been converted into the city's tourist information office. Listen to your guide's stories about how the castle got its name and what it was like for the women who worked there.

Next, you'll see the Antiguo Fábrica de Tabacos across the Río Guadalquivir, which was built in 1770 when tobacco arrived in Seville by the shipload. When it was completed, the factory was the second-largest building in Spain, demonstrating the importance of the tobacco industry. Here, discover who the cigar girls were and why they went on strike before moving on to your next stop.

Continue through Parque María Luisa now to the remarkable Plaza de España. Built for the 1929 World's Fair and used in films such as "Star Wars" and "Lawrence of Arabia," Seville's landmark square is surrounded by a curved structure that exhibits a mix of architectural styles, including Art Deco and Neo Mudéjar. Try to locate the scarce female statues among the many men overlooking the plaza.

Carry on north next, passing Universidad de Sevilla and through the Alcázar gardens into Santa Cruz, the city's Jewish quarter. Home to Seville's UNESCO-listed cathedral, bell tower, and numerous historical royal buildings, you'll make your way to your final stop, Plaza Santa Marta. Here, you'll learn about the literary kidnapping of Doña Iñes before saying goodbye to your guide.

Our guide was not the greatest. We ended up leaving the tour early. He spoke very softly and didn't make the history he was talking about come to life. It was really disappointing because we had looked forward to it. Read more
