What you'll do

Your guide will be waiting for you at Plateia Markopoulou, located in the east parking lot of the Municipal Market. Once you arrive, you'll join your fellow travelers and hop into the car. To ensure a more personalized and intimate experience, this activity is limited to a maximum of six people. As you hit the highway, your experienced guide will share insights about the rich history of the Cretan wine industry, which dates back 4000 years. You'll discover the highs and lows that have shaped the industry into what it is today.

The first stop will be Karavitakis Winery, where your guide will take you to a beautifully renovated tasting room. You'll learn how to properly taste wine and sample six wines of both local and international varieties. Get ready to experience a delightful array of flavors and aromas.

Your next stop is a 3000-year-old olive tree, one of the oldest in the world and surprisingly still productive. A branch from this olive tree was used in the Olympic Games in 2004. Its mesmerizing presence makes you think of all the things it silently witnessed. Right in front of the magnificent three lies a modest museum showcasing the tools and equipment used in cultivating and harvesting these ancient trees. Here you can discover the secrets of the centuries-old tradition of olive production.

Then, immerse yourself in the flavors of Crete at the Anoskeli Winery Olive Mill. Indulge in a sensory journey as you taste their organic extra virgin olive oil, accompanied by fresh bread and the tantalizing flavors of lemon and oregano. A visit to this mill is a must for any foodie looking to explore the rich and diverse culinary traditions of Crete. Continue with a winery experience by tasting five different local wines, each perfectly paired with its own Cretan snack. As you sip, your host will teach you a bit about the country's wine production, including the local production in Crete. At the end of your visit, feel free to grab some olive oil or a bottle of local wine to take home with you.
