Booklovers B&B, Wellington
Victorian-era bed and breakfast with literary-themed rooms and complimentary breakfast set next to the city's green belt
Overview
Booklovers B&B is a small and charming late-19th-century Victorian villa in the quaint neighborhood of Mount Victoria. Owned and managed by award-winning author Jane Tolerton, this bed and breakfast combines culture and nature with its book-themed ambience and peaceful environment. The hotel is next to the city's tranquil green belt, a massive park with walking trails that can take you to the waterfront in about 30 minutes. In the other direction, about 15 minutes of walking will get you to the downtown area, which is filled with cafés, shops, and restaurants, as well as Te Papa, the national museum.
As a quaint bed and breakfast, you'll only find three rooms here, each offering a spacious and immersive literary experience bearing the name of a famous New Zealand author. The Katherine Mansfield Room, located upstairs, features a queen and king-sized bed and offers views of the city and forest. The Ronald Hugh Morrieson Room, also upstairs, provides a queen and single bed overlooking a beautiful pohutukawa tree and forest area. Lastly, the Janet Frame Room, set downstairs, comes with a queen and a single bed, and it provides views of the pohutukawa tree and forest area across the road. All rooms are colorful and comfortable, equipped with en suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, heating, and coffee-making facilities.
During your stay at Booklovers B&B, you can start your morning with a full breakfast in the dining room—featuring fresh fruits, granola, yogurt, and freshly-made eggs. After a day of exploring, you can unwind on the deck overlooking the city and the trees of the green belt. If you're in the mood for a stroll, the green belt bush walking tracks are adjacent to the house, and the Hobbit Hideaway from The Lord of the Rings on Mount Victoria is a must-visit for fans (a 25-minute walk through the park).
