Hôtel Dieu Intercontinental, Marseille
Opulent landmark hotel offering chic rooms and suites, a Michelin-starred restaurant, a tranquil spa, and city views
Overview
Hôtel Dieu Intercontinental is a grand and historic property located in the oldest quarter of Marseille, atop Panier Hill. It overlooks the Vieux Port (Old Port) and is within 10 minutes of walking to the Centre de la Vieille Charité (Old Charity Center) with its museums and historic buildings. Embodying the grandeur of its past as an 18th-century building inaugurated by Napoleon III, this hotel stands within a classified historical monument. It also offers views of the landmark Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde Basilica.
Designed by Jean-Philippe Nuel, renowned for his work in luxury hotels, the rooms and suites at Hôtel Dieu Intercontinental reflect the mineral tones of the city, echoing the local setting and its ancient monuments. The hotel offers several room types, from "Classic" units offering views of the historic Panier Quarter to Terrace Rooms with private balconies overlooking the Vieux Port. The hotel's 15 suites, all offering views of Marseille, are decorated in a subtle mix of the old and contemporary. Particularly notable is the Presidential Suite, with its hints of Provençal lavender and a private terrace offering a clear view of the Vieux-Port and Notre-Dame de la Garde.
The hotel offers a few different gastronomic experiences, including the Alcyone restaurant, serving Mediterranean cuisine in an intimate setting. Its menu, designed by Michelin-starred Chef Lionel Levy, offers a sensory discovery of the region. The hotel also features a trendy bar, the Capian, with a drinks menu featuring over 200 international alcohol brand references and over 50 inimitable cocktails. The hotel's Spa by Clarins is fitted with the latest high-quality Technogym equipment, saunas, hammams, and an indoor pool resembling traditional Provençal fountains and lavoirs.
