Mount Cook Station, Aoraki / Mount Cook Village
Family-run country retreat with mountain views, various accommodation types, and a history museum
Overview
Mount Cook Station is a family-run country station nestled on the northeast side of Lake Pukaki. Secluded from civilization, you'll be surrounded by Aoraki/Mount Cook, the Southern Alps, and have views of Lake Pukaki and the Jollie and Tasman Rivers. The property is located between Christchurch and Queenstown, a 45-minute ride from Lake Tekapo. Mount Cook Station also has its own museum, which highlights the history of the land, the people who lived on it, their skills, and the machinery they used throughout the generations.
Mount Cook Station offers three accommodation options: Shearer's Quarters, Station Huts, and Boutique B&B. The Shearer's Quarters are rustic on the outside and have a warm and inviting wooden interior. They offer views of Lake Pukaki, the Jollie and Tasman River flats, and the Southern Alps and are located close to the homestead. The Shearers Quarters, with its relaxed atmosphere, offers a warm and welcoming retreat. The Quarters have renovated rooms, including shared facilities such as kitchens, bathrooms, and private rooms rented as 1,2,3,4 or 5 bedrooms. The Station Huts, which provided housing for shepherds, maintain their original exterior and have a refreshed and cozy interior. These rooms offer more privacy and feature wooden interiors with minimal yet functional furnishing. You can access the bathroom and kitchen outside and enjoy the natural views. The Boutique B&B provides a modern, award-winning stay with one or two available bedrooms, the Mount Cook Suite, and the Pukaki Suite, depending on your view. A kitchen and living room connects the rooms with high ceilings, a stone fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling windows with mountain views.
To make yourself feel more at home, you visit the on-site museum to learn more about the property and its rich history. You can also meet the farm animals like the Angus cattle, red deer, fallow deer, and dogs. Additionally, Mount Cook Station allows you to explore the area on foot, tour the farm, or enjoy scenic views from your room.
