Authenticity

Opora Country Living Nafplio was dreamed up in 2015, when the Markidis family began carefully restoring the historic stone farmhouses on their 74-acre (40 ha) farm east of Nafplio. The result is an intimate and elevated version of the humble "farmstay," with stylish interiors that feature reclaimed materials and antique pieces picked up on the family's travels. You'll have the chance to sample plenty of homegrown products during al fresco breakfasts or farm-to-table dinners, but if you want to get even more hands-on, you can arrange beekeeping, winemaking, and culinary workshops, or grab one of the wooden bikes and set off to explore the organic olive groves, vineyards, and orchards on your own.

Location

Located just outside the tiny village of Pirgiotika, the farm sits among the Peloponnese's rural countryside, about 6 miles (10 km) or a 15-minute drive inland from Nafplio. You can reach the UNESCO-listed, fourth-century BCE ruins Epidaurus in under 30 minutes, or the wine country and ancient sanctuary of Nemea in under an hour. The village itself has several traditional tavernas, shops, and a gas station, and you'll have plentiful hiking options on your doorstep. There's free private parking on-site, plus a charging station for electric vehicles.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Accommodations are spread across four restored stone buildings and range from suite-like doubles in the main farmhouse to separate cottages with kitchens, fireplaces, and private gardens. All feature lovingly curated interiors that showcase rustic materials like raw stone walls and painted wooden ceilings, plus modern luxuries like COCOMAT mattresses and bedding. The kitchen areas feel straight out of a country farmhouse, with reclaimed wooden counters and antique copper faucets, and bathrooms make creative use of limited space with carved stone sinks and rain-style showers. All rooms include air-conditioning, Nespresso machines, and WiFi.

Amenities

You'll find two outdoor infinity pools dotted among the gardens and orchards, each with sun loungers and umbrellas. A complimentary breakfast is served in a shaded olive grove (or in-room), and the generous spread includes plenty of items grown and made right on the farm, including fresh honey, fresh-squeezed juices, stone oven-baked breads, and free-range eggs. There are more farm-grown products in the delightful deli/restaurant, where you can grab sandwiches, takeaway meals, or a bottle of the estate's wine (or sit down to elevated farm-to-table fare for lunch and dinner). Nearby, the bar serves barista-style coffee during the day and switches to craft cocktails in the evenings.

Family-Friendliness

Opora Nafplio Country Living welcomes families, and its secluded cottages sleep two adults and two children comfortably, with handy self-catering kitchens and private garden areas for the little ones to run around. Adventurous kids will love the extensive grounds filled with olive and fruit trees, and bike rentals are available for those looking to explore farther afield.
