Mabel Alvarez
Born and raised in the heart of the Dominican Republic, I cherish the beach and island living. In the travel industry, my role is to lead travelers off the beaten path, connect them with locals, and immerse them in the heart of the culture. Travel, to me, is about expanding horizons and gaining new perspectives on life, is about being a traveler, not a tourist, by engaging with local communities, supporting their people, and fostering meaningful connections.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I specialize in creating tailored experiences that highlight the hidden gems of the Dominican Republic. This includes exploring local markets, participating in community-based tourism projects, and discovering natural wonders such as remote beaches and green mountain trails. Whether you're interested in cultural immersion, adventure activities, or eco-friendly travel, I can craft an itinerary that suits your preferences."
How did you get involved in travel?
"In 2019, I shifted from Business Management and Logistics to focus on Service Learning, merging my professional skills with a passion for fostering positive community impact. By 2022, I found my ideal role in the Travel Industry, where I share my love for exploring travel, celebrating diverse cultures, and actively engaging in community initiatives."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"One of my most unforgettable moments was leading a group of kids in the Dominican Republic, all huge baseball fans. During an activity, I spotted a nearby baseball field and couldn't resist. I slipped away from the group and approached the coach to see if we could join in for a friendly match. He was instantly on board, and what followed was pure magic. Playing alongside locals, the kids were overjoyed, making genuine connections and turning the game into the highlight of our trip. The warmth and appreciation they showed me will stay with me forever. It just goes to show, a little kindness can create profound memories.
Another time, while passing by with a group, I saw people dancing to live drum music celebrating 'las patronales,' a cultural celebration. I couldn't resist—I stopped the bus, and asked to join the party, and soon, all my travelers were dancing with the locals, feeling the music and letting themselves go. It was a magical experience, filled with joy and connection, and it truly captured the essence of immersive travel."
