Rick Carassai
I have non-stop backpacked for over 12 years around the world, working in all sorts of trades. During that time I had the chance to become fluent in several languages and have lived and worked with other people of many cultures and very different (sometimes extreme) environments. Through this lifestyle, I'm always learning about the importance of communication and each day I learn something more about the reality of the world we live in.
Now I am learning about a more rooted lifestyle while still allowing for plenty of travel, in the company of the best mate one can ask for, an awesome daughter.
I am based in a tiny rural village in Mexico, working remotely and slowly making a life-dream come true as I navigate the current of life.
How did you get involved in travel?
"At an early age I started to study languages, living in a small Italian city there were many schools to continue my passion so I ended up studying tourism. I had to go to Uni but I decided to go for a short 1 year abroad experience in Spain. I ended up working in a hostel, meeting tons of people from all over the world and realizing how I really knew nothing about the world. After that experience, I wasn't able to stop discovering and opening my eyes. It was only after 12 years, when I decided to start a family, that I stopped living from my backpack and decided to find a comfy place to share my passion and all that I have learned with the world."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"Backpacking for 12 years has been a myriad of amazing and crazy experiences. Working in hostels and bars around Europe, protecting sea turtles in Costa Rica, teaching English in remote communities, being a jungle guide and translator in the Amazon rainforest, living and exploring more countries than I can remember, getting to know amazing people along the way.
