A Perfect Customized Vacation!
Greece

Aug 30 - Sep 16, 2021
We just returned yesterday (September 16, 2021) from a fantastic 18-day vacation in Greece (Athens and Naxos with day trips to Paros, Delos, and Mykonos). kimkim provided a great platform for planning this vacation and Tasos Mylonas and the Travel12 team in Greece provided 5-star expertise, advice, recommendations, itinerary planning, flexibility in details and so much more during the planning process. In the end we had a customized vacation package (except for the international travel and travel insurance) precisely tuned to our desires and integrating Tasos' recommendations for a perfect vacation in Greece.
We approached kimkim in April 2021 to start planning this vacation after Greece announced that they would be opening up to tourism in May. They put us in contact with Tasos and he worked with us through the kimkim platform over the next few months listening to our interests, proposing itineraries, fine-tuning things, and (when all was settled) handling all the booking arrangements for our time in Greece. We really... really appreciate his patience, expertise, responsiveness, thoroughness, and friendliness.
The trip itself went spectacularly, without a hitch. One activity had to be rescheduled due to weather but we had enough flexibility in the itinerary that this presented no problem. The Travel12 team provided great support during our travels -- answering our occasional questions, providing updates, and the like.
One aspect of this trip that made it really special for us was that it included several (okay, seven!) guided tours ranging from a few hours to almost a full day. The guides were local experts who provided stories, information, and context that we would never have gotten if we had explored on our own. And, perhaps best of all, for all the tours but one, it was just the two of us and the guide! (The other tour had a total of five plus the guide.) We loved this! (We also participated in a day-long catamaran cruise on Naxos with about 20 other passengers -- this was a fun day!)
In addition to the tours, we had many full days to do our own thing (by design). Tasos provided excellent recommendations (e.g., neighborhoods of Athens, beaches of Naxos, and villages of Naxos), which we took advantage of (as time permitted) but we also did a few things completely on our own (or recommended to us by some of the people we met).
All in all, we would highly recommend kimkim and Travel12 if you are looking for a vacation customized to your interests, where you can be "on your own" but can also have the support of a great team when it's needed.
Hotel Reviews
We loved this hotel! It is centrally located in the Plaka District. Everything in central Athens is within easy walking distance. It is a remodeled residence and exhibits that charm. Every room is different and eclectic in its own way. Our room was not large but very comfortable and elegant. It served our needs perfectly. The rooftop restaurant provides the included breakfasts which were outstanding - from a buffet or a hot breakfast made-to-order (or both). And the view from the roof... spectacular! The staff was always very friendly and helpful.
Let your host provide recommendations for dinner spots or help you with sightseeing recommendations. Visit the rooftop in the evening (we went up there to enjoy a "leftovers" dinner and had the patio and gorgeous view to ourselves.
We stayed at this wonderful hotel for about 11 days in September 2021. We had a suite on the ground floor that was very convenient for comings and goings. Although it looked out on the parking lot, the view beyond -- the Agean Sea and the Potara -- was stunning. It was particularly gorgeous in the morning and at sundown. Cyano Suites is a short walk (maybe 10 minutes) from central Naxos Town -- away from the commotion but still close at hand. The suite was very modern and comfortable. The placement of the bathtub in the living room was a little "odd" (we used it only for cleaning our feet). The rest of the bathroom was behind the raised king bed (with a wonderful view out the front French doors) -- one half (the walk-in shower) on the left and the sink/toilet area on the right (we had to walk around the bed to get from one side to the other). A little funky, but we really liked it regardless. A really nice touch was the stocked refrigerator that was replenished every day (all gratis!). Highly recommended! The included breakfast was provided at the sister Adriani Hotel a few blocks away. The morning walk to breakfast wasn't as convenient as it would be if breakfast were in the same building, but the morning stroll to and from was always a nice start to the day. The breakfast itself was always spectacular! For such a small clientele the choices were overwhelming and everything was always delicious. We wanted to try some of everything, but there were always too many choices. The hot breakfast pies (both sweet and savory) were the highlight, but the breakfast desserts were a close second. The pies (and, I believe, the desserts) were all prepared on site! And there was so much more (e.g., drinks, fruit, cold cuts, cheese, cereal)! Our host (the gentleman behind the desk; sorry, I can't remember his name) was always so helpful and friendly and always anxious to serve us. After noticing that I had badly skinned my shin after climbing a rock on a catamaran sail he offered some much needed fatherly advice (I'm 68 years old and probably at least 20 years older than him) -- (paraphrasing) "We're not young anymore; we need to take care of ourselves." I needed that advice -- the fact that I was 68 and maybe shouldn't have been climbing on big rocks never crossed my mind at the time. I obviously remember his advice and won't soon, if ever, forget it. My new Dad. 😊 In its own way, the Cyano Suites was probably one of the most pleasant places we have ever stayed -- the room itself (funky or not), the view, and the included breakfast. All top notch.
Consider an upstairs suite to possibly improve the view somewhat (albeit less convenient). If/when we return, we will choose a ground floor suite again. If you'd rather not walk a few blocks to and from breakfast, consider booking your room at the sister Adriani Hotel (where breakfast is served). The views from rooms at the Adriani Hotel may not be as spectacular as the Cyano Suites. Also, it is a short walk into town. If you want to be in the middle of the action, this is probably not the best choice, but I am sure it is quieter!
We stayed at this hotel for only one night (before our flight home). The Vouliagmeni Suites is a very pleasant hotel with a very helpful staff. Their Covid-19 precautions seemed to be exempliary. This included facilitating our pre-flight Covid-19 tests. Our room was very large, comfortable and had a very nice view. Unfortunately, we did not have lots of time to enjoy the hotel. We arrived early in the afternoon and had a nice afternoon snack out on the patio (we had dinner offsite), before going on an excursion down the coast and got back to the hotel quite late. Then we arose before 3 a.m. (😱) to catch our ride to the airport. We generally like to stay at more "boutique-y" hotels but this served our needs very nicely for our short stay.
As mentioned in the review, we had a very early flight so we were not able to enjoy their complimentary breakfast. However, they offered a "box breakfast" which was ready for us when we checked out. The "breakfast" was not particularly notable (sandwich bread sandwich, fruit, and drink), but it was a nice gesture on their part.
Hello Tom,
