The adventure begins in Mandalay, where you'll check in to your hotel before catching sunset at Mandalay Hill, then enjoying a night out on the town. On day two, you'll visit a Buddhist nunnery. After touring the site, you'll have lunch—a traditional meal prepared by the nuns. Later in the day, head to Shwenandaw Kyaung, a gorgeous teak building that's the last remaining structure of the Royal Palace, and Kuthodaw Pagoda, known as ‘The World’s Biggest Book' due to its 729 inscribed marble tablets.
On day three, you'll travel to U Bein Bridge. Nearly a mile long, it's the world’s longest teak bridge. Afterward, you'll go on a bike tour through quiet lanes, quaint villages, and rice paddies. Cross the Dohkthawaddy River by ferry to Inwa (bikes are allowed on the boat!), a town considered the royal capital many times between the 14th and 19th centuries. Pedal past historic ruins and have a picnic lunch before driving to Bagan in time for sunset. Spend the last full day of the trip touring Bagan's pagodas, marketplaces, and villages, finishing the afternoon with a boat ride on the Irrawaddy River. Start the trip in Yangon. After breakfast, you'll drive north to Bago to visit the world-famous Thamanay Buddhist academy. Then continue to the thousand-year-old Shwemawdaw Pagoda: its spire is even taller than that of the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. Next up is Golden Rock (or Kyaiktiyo Pagoda), located on a dramatic cliff. To get there, you'll travel in an open-air truck along a winding road to the top of a hill. Enjoy the breathtaking views—you'll be back the next morning at sunset for an even more impressive photo op.
The next day, head to Hpa An via Kyauk Kalat, a pagoda on an island in a lake, then to the village of Lakkhana and the cave at Kaw Ka Thaung, which contains more than 100 Buddhas. Continue to the massive Sadan cave and explore the area on a boat. Take in sunset from the riverfront at Shwe Yin Hmyaw Pagoda. Begin the trip in the busy city of Yangon. Explore the colonial architecture of the city's downtown, enjoy a cup of tea in a local tea shop, and go for a ride on the Circular Train, a slow-moving commuter train that takes you through several city neighborhoods. On day two, you'll visit Shwedagon Pagoda before catching a flight to Heho and making the drive overland, through the region's famous hills, to the town of Pindaya. On day three, you'll trek through tea plantations on your way to Pindaya's limestone caves, home to thousands of Buddha statues.
Continue by car to Nyaung Shwe, the nearest town to Inle Lake. You'll spend the last full day of the trip on and around the water. On a bicycle, pedal to the canal to see boats unloading piles of tomatoes, then pass by rice paddies before reaching Indein. From there, you'll hop on a boat and cruise around the lake to see floating gardens and villages built on stilts. You'll also have the unique experience of dining in a local family's home before circling back to Nyaung Shwe and your hotel, where you'll have one last evening to spend before the next day's flight home.
