Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Puyuhuapi
Your tour of the astonishing Aysén region of Patagonia begins at Balmaceda Airport. As you will be venturing deep within the wilderness, you'll spend significant time on the road today.
You'll first transfer to the nearby city of Coyhaique, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch before continuing for about three hours along the scenic Austral Road to Puyuhuapi. Much of the journey consists of extraordinary landscapes of dense forests between mountains and cliffs, so you can sit back and take in the views from the car window.
Once at your destination, you will take a motorboat across the Puyuhuapi Channel to your accommodation. For your first day, we recommend heading to the lodge's spa, relaxing your muscles before the days of active adventure that are to come.
Chat with a local specialist who can help organize your trip.
Days 2-3: Free Days in Puyuhuapi
For the next two days, you'll be able to spend time in the magnificent landscapes of Puyuhuapi, including the Queulat National Park.
This Patagonian Aysén region offers fjords, incredible botanical diversity, and challenging summits. Take in the fluvial scenery by kayaking through channels and between islands. Be on the look-out for bird colonies, and marine mammals like sea lions and bottlenose dolphins.
If you'd like to move on your own two feet, there are plenty of trails that cross fairy tale-like forests with lichens, fungi, mosses, ferns, and wild flowers. Climb up to high points to get panoramic views of glaciers and lakes. As you traverse the trails, keep an eye out for animals like cougars, Andean condors, and South Andean deer.
Back at the lodge, you can enjoy thermal waters at the spa, which also offers relaxing massages and thalassotherapy sessions. This is the perfect way to end a day full of wilderness excursions.
You will also have the chance to learn about the local gastronomy at the lodge's in-house restaurant, which uses fresh ingredients from its own greenhouse. Pair dinner with your selection of world-renowned Chilean wines.
At night, don't miss the chance to soak in the outdoor hot-spring pools under the Patagonian sky.
Day 4: Depart Home
Rise early to take advantage of your last morning in Patagonia. A quick walk around the forests or a last sunrise in the lake will be the perfect way to end your trip.
After breakfast, you'll cross the Puyuhuapi Channel back to the road, and return to Balmaceda Airport to catch your onward flight. As a treat, you'll get a delicious local lunch en route.
