Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in San Sebastián, Bike Tour, Pintxos & Wine Walking Tour
Welcome to San Sebastián in the off-season! Upon arrival at San Sebastián Airport (EAS), a private driver will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel.
Once settled, it's time to meet your guide and explore this beautiful city on two wheels visiting La Parte Vieja (Old Town), as well as cathedrals, plazas, and even the 12th-century Motako Gaztelua castle. As you zip through the charming streets, your guide will show you the city's incredible Belle Epoch architecture, thanks to Queen Maria Cristina. Of course, you'll also visit three famed beaches that are less crowded this time of year, including Ondarreta, La Concha, and Zurriola, where the Dove of Peace sculpture is located.
Day 2: San Sebastián Gastronomy Experience, Transfer to Val d'Aran
Chat with a local specialist who can help organize your trip.
After a good night's rest, you'll start the day with an exclusive private cooking class focused on traditional Basque country cuisine. First, you'll visit the local market in San Sebastián to learn about and stock up on some of the freshest seasonal produce available. Then discover how locals use these ingredients, and create your own authentic dishes under the expert tutelage of your chef. Of course, you and your group will enjoy the fruits of your labor with a communal meal to end this memorable experience.
In the afternoon, you'll transfer from San Sebastián to Val d'Aran (Aran valley) in the high-altitude Pyrenees mountains at more than 6,500 feet (2,000 m) above sea level. This is Catalonia's northernmost region along the French border, and it draws sports enthusiasts to its snowy mountains and ski resorts. Upon arrival at your hotel, you'll have the rest of the evening to relax and have dinner in this winter wonderland.
Day 3: Snowshoeing in Baqueira Beret
Today you'll wake up to your first morning views of one of the most beautiful valleys of the Pyrenees. Take some time to relax and enjoy the scenery before you strap on a pair of snowshoes and begin a leisurely walk starting from the ski resort of Baqueira Beret to a rebuilt refuge. Along this route, it's common to see dog sleds and cross-country skiers who are looking to commune with nature while escaping the bustle of the nearby tourist hubs.Day 4: Snowshoeing Tour & Snowmobile Transfer to a Mountain Spa
Stretch your muscles this morning and get ready for a remarkable day in the mountains. Like yesterday, your snowshoe route starts close to Baqueira Beret ski resort, but this time you'll walk along a stunning path toward mountain lakes at the edge of the valley. You will have a chance to walk over these frozen lakes making a circular route and then return to the ski resort in the afternoon.
The adventure isn't over yet, though. It's time to change hotels as you make your way to an isolated mountain spa that is accessible only by snowmobile. Enjoy this remote location surrounded by peaceful winter landscapes, where you'll end the day with dinner and the warmth of a fireplace.
Day 5: Snowshoe Tour to Aigüestortes National Park
After a relaxing night and a hearty breakfast, it's time to put on snowshoes and utilize the hotel's direct access to the remote mountains. This is where you'll start a scenic walk heading toward Aigüestortes National Park—the only national park in Catalonia—where you'll visit some of the park's 200 mountain lakes, some of which are glacial. As you pass by steep alpine landscapes and sloping valleys speckled with fragrant fir and pine trees, keep an eye out for the occasional Pyrenean mountain goat in the distance.
In the afternoon, circle back and finish today's route at the same mountain spa hotel, where a fireplace and warm bath await your arrival.Day 6: Val d'Aran to San Sebastián, Depart
It's time to say goodbye to the Pyrenees! At the appointed time, you'll be transferred back to San Sebastián Airport for your departure flight. Safe travels!More Great Spain Itineraries
