Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Calgary (BC), Explore Prince's Island Park, Dinner at Sky 360
Welcome to Alberta! Nicknamed "Cowtown" for its western heritage, the city's history is steeped in cattle ranching and attracts visitors worldwide for its incredible scenery. Upon arrival at the airport, pick up your rental car and drive to your hotel to check in. After a refresh, the rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. If you want to immerse yourself in nature, walk or drive to Prince's Island Park, an islet in the middle of the Bow River. Stroll along the picturesque pathways, admire the vibrant floral displays, or sit down for a picnic.
Day 2: Drive to Banff, Sunsets & Stars Evening Walking Tour
After a restful night in Calgary, it's time to hit the road for a 1.5-hour drive to Banff, a resort town in the heart of the Rockies. As you drive west along the Trans-Canada Highway, try to spot grazing wildlife like elk, bears, or mountain goats. If you want to stop and stretch your legs, the charming towns of Cochrane or Canmore are perfect for a wander or to grab a bite to eat. After checking into your hotel in Banff, enjoy some free time to explore the area. You could hike to Johnston Canyon, unwind in the Banff Upper Hot Springs, or explore Banff National Park.
Day 3: Guided Tour of Banff, Sulphur Mountain Gondola Ride
Explore more of Banff today, this time on a guided tour of the town's landmarks, starting at the UNESCO-listed Fairmont Banff Springs, to admire the castle-like exterior. Continue to nearby Bow Falls to watch Bow River cascade over a series of rocky ledges into a turquoise pool below. Stroll down one of the surrounding trails to admire the falls from different vantage points before continuing to the Surprise Corner Viewpoint. It's a great spot to capture a photo of the surrounding forests, tranquil river, and iconic hotel you visited earlier.
Your last stop is Lake Minnewanka, a glacial lake renowned for its crystal-clear waters and scenic mountain vistas. Wander down one of the surrounding trails or book a boat cruise to learn about the lake's history. After the tour, make your way to the Banff Gondola for a ride up Sulphur Mountain. Enjoy panoramic views of rugged peaks, lush forests, and alpine lakes at the summit while you soak up the fresh mountain air. Learn about the area's history and geology at the Interpretive Centre, or grab a bite to eat at the mountaintop restaurant while you enjoy the unparalleled views.
Day 4: Guided Tour of Lake Louise & Moraine Lake, Drive to Jasper
Spend your last few hours in Banff on a guided tour of some of the national park's glacial lakes, starting 40 minutes outside town at the iconic Lake Louise. The lake's turquoise waters and the towering peaks that encircle it make for quite the view as you wander along the shoreline. You'll also see the 1.86-mile (3 km) long Victoria Glacier and iconic Fairmont Château Lake Louise. Your next stop is Moraine Lake within the Valley of the Ten Peaks. There's plenty to admire here, but invest in a short walk up Rockpile Trail, and you'll be rewarded with an elevated view of the surroundings.

Day 5: Maligne Lake Cruise & Jasper SkyTram or Hike in Jasper National Park
Start your day with a cruise across Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies, as it stretches over 13.7 miles (22 km). On board, glide past towering peaks, including the iconic Mount Edith Cavell, the snowcapped Queen Elizabeth Ranges, and Spirit Island, a picturesque islet adorned with dense pine forests. Disembark and follow the short path around the islet to different observation decks for panoramic views of the glacial lake and towering peaks. After 1.5 hours on the water, the rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish.
Day 6: Drive to Sun Peaks (BC), Explore the Resort
Say goodbye to Jasper this morning as you hit the road for a five-hour drive to Sun Peaks, a resort municipality nestled in the mountains. The drive will take you down Highway 5, better known as the Yellowhead Highway, where you'll be treated to views of towering mountains, pristine forests, and crystal-clear lakes. When you arrive, stretch your legs and lace up your hiking boots for a self-guided trek down one of the area's 17 designated trails. Either start your journey straight from the village or take the Sunburst Express Chairlift to the middle of Tod Mountain to hike the summit.
Those visiting between mid-July and mid-August can witness rolling alpine meadows covered in a kaleidoscope of wildflowers, but the landscape is beautiful year-round. As you walk, enjoy views of the surrounding peaks and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like deer, squirrels, and chipmunks. If you want a more relaxed day after your long drive, tee off at the 18-hole championship golf course at Sun Peaks Resort instead or unwind in one of the luxurious spas. In the evening, return to town to visit one of the casual eateries or upscale restaurants for dinner.
Day 7: Drive to Kelowna, Visit Okanagan Lake, Hike the Myra Canyon Trail
Trade the mountain peaks for the vibrant city streets of Kelowna today as you set off on a three-hour drive through dense forests, rolling hills, and the lush Okanagan Valley. When you arrive, check into your hotel and refresh, then venture out to explore the area on your own. If the weather permits, you can spend a day on Okanagan Lake, where you can swim, kayak, paddleboard, or rent a boat for fishing or cruising. If you want to hike, the Myra Canyon Trail is a good option, with a route that traverses 18 wooden trestle bridges and two tunnels.
Drive 40 minutes outside the city to the trailhead and set off down the relatively flat path, enjoying panoramic views of the valley. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like deer or bears and various bird species, including woodpeckers, chickadees, and hawks. Alternatively, stay in the city and visit landmarks like the Okanagan Heritage Museum or Kelowna Art Gallery instead. When you get hungry, make your way downtown to Bernard Avenue, where you'll be greeted by an array of dining options, from cozy eateries to upscale establishments.
Day 8: Wine Tasting in the Okanagan Valley
Kelowna is known for its surrounding wineries, as there are over 200 spread across the Okanagan Valley. You won't be able to visit them all, but having a car allows you to stop at as many vineyards as you want. Start at the Mission Hill Family Estate Winery, known for its castle-like architecture, picturesque vineyards, and award-winning wines. Go on a tour of the estate to learn about the meticulous winemaking process, from grape-growing to bottling, and sample a selection of acclaimed wines, including the vineyard's signature chardonnay, merlot, and syrah varietals.
Day 9: Drive to Vancouver, Explore the City, Depart
Your final day in Canada takes you on a four-hour drive to the coastal city of Vancouver for your flight home. If you have time, there's plenty to explore in the city before leaving. Head to the historic district of Gastown to admire the Victorian buildings, artisan markets, and iconic Gastown Steam Clock, which chimes every 15 minutes. Then, go to the Granville Island Public Market to sample local cheeses, freshly baked pastries, or handmade chocolates. The island's waterfront location also offers panoramic views of the city skyline and surrounding mountains.
If you have time, make one last stop in Chinatown to explore the array of shops selling medicinal herbs, handmade goods, and souvenirs. End your self-guided tour in the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden to admire the lush foliage, tranquil ponds, and intricate rock formations. Just keep an eye on the clock so you can drive to the airport, return your rental car, and head inside to catch your flight. Safe travels!
