Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Lusaka
Welcome to Lusaka! A tour representative will meet you from your flight and transfer you to your comfortable and restful accommodations. Take the rest of the evening to relax and enjoy yourself.
Day 2: Transfer to Lusaka Airport and Fly to Mfuwe for Flatdogs
Start your morning with an early transfer to Lusaka Airport for your 7:15 AM flight to Mfuwe. Once you arrive, you'll be met by your accommodations representatives and transferred to the Flatdogs Camp, your home for the next three nights. The camp sits on the banks of the Luangwa River, with stunning views of the surrounding scenery. You'll stay in a safari-style tent equipped with full-size beds, a bathroom, and a view of the river.
Days 3-4: Explore South Luangwa from Flatdogs
You'll spend most of your time at this camp on game drives and game walks, as the area is known for its incredible scenery and richness of wildlife species. Get an early start in the mornings so you can make the most of the daylight and see the animals when they are at their most active.
Day 5: Transfer - Flatdogs to Luambe
Chat with a local specialist who can help organize your trip.
Get an early start with a pick-up from camp, then hit the road for your transfer to Luambe National Park. The drive there is an incredible journey through rural villages, into the Nsefu Sector of the National Park and out of South Luangwa. From here, head north along the banks of the Luangwa River to reach Luambe National Park. The drive will take approximately 4.5 hours, depending on how many stops you take to explore the surrounding scenery.
Luambe National Park is one of Africa's best-kept secrets, and with only four safari tents at the camp, you'll be able to enjoy the entire park to yourselves. The camp is situated with the best views in mind, so there's no shortage of scenery to admire.
In the evening, relax in comfortable tents, which use solar lighting and water heating and have en-suite bathrooms.
Days 6-8: Explore Luambe National Park
Your days at this camp are similar to those at Flatdogs, with morning and afternoon activities organized for you to see as much of the park as possible. You'll spend most of your time on game drives, with a few game walks as well. The park is fairly isolated so you'll have a real sense of solitude as you explore the park's waterholes, forests, and open fields.
Day 9: Transfer - Luambe to Flatdogs
Transfer back to South Luangwa and spend your last evening at Flatdogs Camp in Mfuwe, as this will make tomorrow's airport transfer more convenient. Take one last evening and morning game drive to try your luck at seeing any particularly elusive species.
Day 10: Flight - South Luangwa to Lower Zambezi and Baines
In the morning transfer to Mfuwe Airport and then connect to Royal Airport in Lower Zambezi via Lusaka. You'll be met by Baines River Camp representatives at Royal Airport and transferred to the lodge, where you'll spend the next three nights. Depending on travel, you'll arrive in the afternoon in time for a game drive.
The lodge, which was named after the famous artist Thomas Baines, has an old-world feeling and offers a wide variety of activities on land and on the river. Your spacious suites are equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, and delightfully warm goose-down bedding with pure linen sheets. In other words—ultimate relaxation. Unwind on your private veranda and enjoy the river views.
Days 11-12: Explore Lower Zambezi from Baines
You'll have three nights here to enjoy the full extent of the camp's natural surroundings. Go for game drives and boat cruises, and get up close and personal with the wildlife as you canoe down the river.
Day 13: Flight - Lower Zambezi to Lusaka
Transfer to Royal Airport for your flight to Lusaka, then connect with your international flight. Safe travels!
