Bicycle and Wine Tour of Provence
Overview
This "gates of Provence" e-bike tour follows a 30 km (18 miles) route along the Rhône River, visiting well-preserved medieval cities and towns like Avignon and Roquemaure. The area is actually nicknamed the "Provence of the Popes" because Avignon is home to the Palais des Papes (Popes' Palace), and from 1309 to 1377 it was the seat of the Catholic popes.
The bike tour culminates north of Avignon at the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, located right on the Rhône. This is the region where, during the papal schism, the Avignon Popes encouraged the development of viticulture. In other words, it's a great winemaking region. Here, our expert oenologist leads guests through an amazing tasting experience that includes sampling the renowned varietals of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, such as Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. The tasting also reveals insight into the various expressions of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines as well as a look into the region's history too.
