Cafayate Full-Day Tour and Wine Tasting, Salta

Overview

The Calchaquí Valley, in northern Argentina's Salta Province, is known for its high-altitude deserts and stunning natural red rock formations. But it's also a prime grape-growing area. The growing conditions here are so optimal, in fact, that it is a wine region to rival even Mendoza, in central Argentina. This experience involves an excursion from the city of Salta to Cafayate, a town in the central Calchaquí Valley known for its many internationally recognized vineyards.

To arrive there involves a drive on National Route 68 through the Lerma Valley, passing alongside tobacco fields and colonial villages featuring German-style architecture. The route then goes through the Quebrada del Río de las Conchas, which abounds with curious rock formations (the result of erosion caused over time by wind and water). After arriving in the village of Cafayate, it's time for a winery tour. The most popular varietal grown in this region is Torrontés, which will be available for tasting. When the wine tour is over it's time to return to Salta.
