Day Trip to Meteora by Train, Athens

Discover the incredible rock-top monasteries of Meteora in a one-day trip having a scenic train ride and a guided driving tour. You'll catch an early departure from Athens Train Station and relax as you make your way across the Greek countryside. Enjoy views over endless olive groves, rugged hills, and mountains.

You'll arrive in Kalabaka before noon, where your minibus awaits. As you make your way to the rock formations created some 60 million years ago, your guide will share an introduction to the region's geological, cultural, and religious history. Upon arrival, enjoy a tour of the 9th-century monastic life, unaffected by modern times. You'll visit all six monasteries and enter two or three of them. 

Your guide will share historical information, local knowledge, and insider specifics along the way and you'll make various stops for capturing unique photos. You will visit secret places that only your local guide would know. At the end of the trip, your minibus will take you back to Kalabaka to catch the afternoon train to Athens.

Please bear in mind that entering the monasteries involves quite a number of steep steps. It is suitable for kids over 6 years old.
