What you'll do
You'll meet your guide in the center of Athens at Syntagma Square and next door to your first point of interest, the Old Royal Palace, a symbol of the city's regal past that resides in a district still home to the affluent and influential. Make your way down to Kolonaki, the city's posh area where people of high status have always settled. It's renowned for its shopping streets packed with high-end boutiques and fashionable clothing stores where top Greek designers sell their products. Walk around neoclassical and modernist buildings and enjoy the sight of this beautiful architectural harmony.
You'll discover anarchist hotspot Exarchia, a neighborhood associated with forward-thinking, creativity, and youth culture. As your guide fills you in on the neighborhood's revolutionary history, you'll learn why this area is called the rebellious quarters of the city. Since every building is considered a canvas here, you'll also notice a lot of street art graffiti.
Next, your guide will take you to Psiri, a beautiful, authentic neighborhood untouched by mass tourism. In this delightful neighborhood, you'll witness a captivating mix of classical and modern architecture. As you stroll around the streets and experience this unique blend of the past and present, you can also see many examples of street art and art galleries. Lastly, you'll continue walking to Monastiraki, one of the oldest neighborhoods of Athens, where modernity coexists with tradition. Here in this lively neighborhood, you'll witness the blend of historical eras and learn how the Ottoman past is still alive in Athen's flea market.
