GeoSea Geothermal Sea Baths Experience, Northern Iceland

4.3 (6 reviews)
Enjoy scenic views and soothing soaks in these saltwater hot pools overlooking Skjálfandi Bay and the Arctic Circle.

Overview

Located just to the north of Húsavik, GeoSea Geothermal Sea Baths offers one of Iceland's most scenic hot pool experiences from its dramatic perch next to the Húsavíkurviti lighthouse and overlooking Skjálfandi Bay. Hop between three infinity-style pools that range from 100.4 F° to 102.2 F°, fed with a rare blend of mineral-rich seawater heated by the earth's core. In between soaks you can take a break at the swim-up bar or unwind with a session in the steam room, and if you're lucky, you might spot whales or dolphins frolicking in the sea below (Húsavik is the country's whale watching capital, after all).

Highlights

  • Soak in a series of mineral-rich, geothermally-heated saltwater pools
  • Enjoy panoramic views over Húsavik's Skjálfandi Bay, known for its whale watching opportunities
  • Grab a drink at the swim-up bar, or a snack at the on-site restaurant

What you'll do

On arrival at the GeoSea Geothermal Sea Baths, you'll check in at reception to receive your fluffy robe, towel, and a scanner bracelet, which secures your locker and serves as a payment method for purchases at the swim-up bar. Head into the spa-like changing rooms to shower off with natural Icelandic Sóley Organics products, then step outside and choose from the three infinity-style hot pools, each built into the cliff edge for panoramic views over Skjálfandi Bay and Húsavik's cheerful yellow Húsavíkurviti lighthouse.

The unique blend of mineral-rich seawater here is renowned for its soothing properties, and a continuous flow from the natural geothermal steam bores means the pools are constantly refreshed—with overflow tumbling over the cliff edge to the sea below. The temperatures in each pool range from a balmy 100.4 F° (38 C°) to 102.2 F° (39 C°) so you can soak year-round, and there's a separate steam room plus a swim-up bar where you can grab a glass of bubbly or a juice without leaving the water.

Húsavik is considered Iceland's whale watching capital, so keep an eye out to sea and you might spot whales or dolphins, as well as diverse seabirds. When you're ready to step back inside, don your robe and grab a hot drink or a snack at the small on-site restaurant, which features floor-to-ceiling windows and sea views.

Very nice experience; amazing views; not overcrowded -- we really enjoyed this bath. It was our #2 favorite bath out of five (Vok was our favorite). Read more

The pools themselves were pretty and did overlook the ocean with land between the two. Of course it was snowing the day we were there so visibility was limited and our heads were exposed to the snow and cold as we did not have hair/head covers. Tips for future travelers

Would have liked to have known that Othman booked a tour that did not include towels to dry off. Would have liked to have known to brace for rude hospitality staff.

Friendliness, understanding that travelers using a travel company are not made aware of details odf what's included in the package purchased by the tour company.

This was a great place to visit. We loved the baths, the swim up bar, etc. We ate in a lovely restaurant in the town. Be sure to bring clothes and be ready to shower before and after going into the pools. We brought a towel with us from our hotel. We didn't need a robe. I was shocked that i wasn't freezing getting in and out of the pools. The view of the mountains over the water in the distance does take your breath away. Read more
