What you'll do

Kick off your full-day adventure to Kuranda, nestled in the heart of the World Heritage Rainforest. You'll embark on a breathtaking ride on the Kuranda Scenic Railway. This scenic journey, stretching for roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes, will wind through stunning mountains and dense rainforests, serving as a prelude to our visit to the charming Kuranda Village. Here, you will have the opportunity to soak in the sights of the majestic Barron Falls, a sight that will truly take your breath away.

The next stop is the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, home to the largest flight aviary in Australia. Be mesmerized as over 1,500 butterflies of various species flutter freely around you. Don't miss a visit to the Breeding Laboratory where you can delve into the fascinating life cycle of the butterfly. This portion of the tour lasts about an hour and is certainly a unique, can't-miss experience.

Then, head to the award-winning Rainforestation Nature Park. You'll get to enjoy a BBQ Buffet Lunch that will surely tickle your tastebuds. But the fun doesn't stop there. Hop aboard a historic World War II Army Duck for a unique rainforest tour. Our friendly Duck Captains will guide you through the rainforest, highlighting the diverse flora and fauna of this ancient ecosystem.

The Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience is next on our agenda. Here, you will learn about the world's oldest surviving culture through a dynamic performance by the Pamagirri Dancers in the rainforest amphitheatre. You'll also have the chance to participate in the Dreamtime Walk and learn how to throw a boomerang, as well as enjoy a spear-throwing and didgeridoo presentation.

We'll cap off the day with a visit to the Koala and Wildlife Park. Get up close and personal with iconic Australian animals like wombats, snakes, dingoes, and even the endangered Cassowary and Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo. You can choose between a guided tour or exploring at your own pace.

Finally, ascend over the pristine rainforest on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. This 1-hour and 30-minute ride will give you an unparalleled view of the rainforest canopy just meters beneath you. Make sure to stop at the Barron Falls and Red Peak stations and take in the incredible views from The Edge lookout.

Tia had arranged a private driver to take us to the train station, We just had to show our information on the KimKim app(New Zealand Touring Company) to receive the train ticket and ticket for the Skyrail. Nicely maintained "old style" train cars with narrated information of places passed and history of the railroad in that area. Post train ride we were in the mountain village of Kuranda that offered a butterfly farm, a koala viewing area (they had other animals as well), a bird aviary ,, shops and restaurants. When we were done walking around, eating and seeing the sights, we got on the Skyrail for the trip back down the mountain. The skyrail makes a few stops where you can get out and look at a large waterfall we saw from the train earlier.

Tips for future travelers
