What you'll do

After meeting your guide and fellow "mythbusters" at the Arch of Hadrian, you'll begin your walk with the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the unofficial gateway to Athens, setting the stage for the mythological tales that await you.

From there, you'll head to the Theatre of Dionysus and the iconic Acropolis, where you'll visit the Temple of Athena Nike, the Temple of Erechtheion, the Propylaia, and the illustrious Parthenon. These sites breathe life into stories of gods like Zeus and Athena and heroes whose tales have shaped Greek mythology. Your guide will not only recount these legendary myths but will also reveal the historical truths hidden within them, providing a richer understanding of the narratives that have been passed down through the ages.

Continuing your exploration, you'll venture to the Ancient Agora, the cradle of democracy and a site where influential philosophers like Socrates once discoursed. Here, you'll view the Hephaisteion, celebrated as the best-preserved temple in Greece, dedicated to both Athena and Hephaestus. As you walk among these ancient grounds, more fascinating myths will unfold, from the tales of Theseus and the Minotaur to the stories of Hera and Aphrodite. This experience offers an insightful look at how ancient Athens rose to prominence, leaving an indelible mark on history and mythology, much like the enduring legends of their gods.

Note that visiting the Acropolis (512 ft/156 m) involves walking on rocky, uphill terrain with inclines and steep steps, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
