What you'll do
Embark on a delightful and refreshing journey in Balestrand, the oldest fruit-growing region in Norway. Your day will begin with a visit to a charming organic orchard nestled on the serene banks of Sognefjord. Here, you'll meet your guide, who will introduce you to the fascinating world of apple growing. They will educate you about various local traditions related to apple cultivation that has been prevalent since the 12th century, offering you a unique glimpse into the region's rich cultural and agricultural heritage.
After your tour of the orchard, you will proceed to the Cider House, a haven for cider enthusiasts. It's here where you'll get the chance to taste five distinct varieties of locally brewed cider. As you sip on the different ciders, your hosts will help you understand and appreciate the diverse spectrum of flavors—from the sweetness of dessert apples and the tanginess of cooking apples to the bitterness of traditional cider apples.
Your tasting session will start with a light and easy veranda cider. This is a refreshing drink, perfect for a relaxing afternoon on the porch. As the session progresses, you'll get to taste more robust ones, culminating in a potent, tannin-infused variety that packs a punch. These ciders are not only beverages but an integral part of the local culture, embodying the spirit and tastes of Balestrand.
As you explore the various cider flavors, you may feel a yearning for some food to accompany your drinks. Luckily, Cider House offers a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious local dishes. You can order as per your liking, pairing your cider with a meal.
