What you'll do

After arriving early to snag your seat, you'll set sail to cruise the innermost section of the Oslofjord, navigating the narrow inlets and sheltered bays, like Huk. You'll pass a number of Oslo's low-lying islands that make up an archipelago of 40, like Hovedøya (the closest island to the city) and Lindøya, where your crew will share insights, including what they're referred to as by the locals. Coming up to Oslo's Bygdøy peninsula, you'll spot the Maritime Museum at the water's edge with its recognizable veteran sailing ship moored outside and the impressive Fram Museum, housing the famed polar ship of the same name.

Throughout the experience, you'll have the chance to savor a buffet featuring Norwegian-style prawns complemented by bread, butter, lemon, dill, and mayonnaise. While this spread is a highlight for many, some (generally non-European) travelers may find the process of eating whole prawns a bit daunting, so it's good to come prepared with an open mind. The ship also offers a bar stocked with hot and cold drinks. As evening falls, you'll be treated to the pretty sight of Oslo's harbor lights twinkling against the backdrop of the fjord, particularly memorable if you happen to catch a clear sunset!

To ensure the best experience, plan to arrive a little before 6:30 pm to secure prime seating along the sides of the boat.

This was a fun activity for us after walking around the city all day in the rain. It was raining on the trip too, but they have a tarp that keeps you dry and you can still see everything. The staff was very friendly and informative. When they say all you can eat shrimp, they mean it! We unfortunately didn't get to see a sunset due to the rain, but the lights in Oslo harbor were lovely. Read more

Tips for future travelers

There is enough to see, and with the break for dinner, the kids didn't get bored. We took playing cards and it did not interfere with sightseeing. It's a great opportunity to meet other travelers if interested.

I'm a kimkim staff member and I was on a work trip when I experienced A Norwegian Evening on the Fjord. The cruise really started boarding just before 6:30pm, so when I got there at 6:30pm, there was already a large line that had already started taking most of the seats along the sides of the boat (highly recommend claiming one of those side-seats, especially along the stern or a seat up top along the bow because they are all side-of-the-ship-seats). The boat workers were very funny and informative throughout the cruise about local island names and some history of the fjord. The Prawn dinner wasn’t bad, definitely gotta recommend travelers take advantage of the dill and lemon that come with it as they make the prawns delicious but it is fairly bland without the seasonings, you also literally pick apart a full shrimp/prawn from head to tail, so some travelers may be a little grossed out like a few people around me. Sunset was insanely beautiful along the fjord, the cruise had blankets and heat lamps all across the boat, and they played a lot of fun American tunes from the 80’s that had many passengers dancing.

Tips for future travelers

- If you are not a 4-person group - expect to share a table with strangers, the staff encourage you to be social and meet new people but this may not be fun for those wanting a relaxing time with just their party. - Arrive 15-20 minutes earlier than departure time to wait in line and guarantee you get a great spot on the ship.

Quality of Experience
Incredible sunset and the views of the fjord were spectacular, along with the views of the neighborhoods nestled on all of the islands we saw.
Food
Picking apart full prawns was not an appetizing experience, a few travelers around me didn't eat at all because of that, they just had bread and butter instead for the 3-hour trip.

There was no Tour Guide on places we were seeing. And the Shrimp Buffet was crawfish (not shrimp) with only white Bread and Lettuce served. There should be a side-dish or REAL SHRIMP. I was expecting more food items. Read more
