Overview

Enjoy a scenic cruise around the Oslofjord and see the capital's sights from your unique vantage point on the water. You'll spend two hours sailing past picturesque islands like Hovedøya and see Oslo's landmarks, including the Dyna Lighthouse, the National Opera House, and the museums on the Bygdøy peninsula. This excursion is ideal for those who want to experience Oslo's cityscape in a cozy and tranquil setting.

What you'll do

At City Hall Pier No. 3, you'll board the beautifully constructed SS Helena, a large, comfortable vessel from the 1940s, and receive a warm welcome from your captain and crew before departing. In wintertime, wrap yourself up in the cozy blankets provided, and sip mulled wine or hot chocolate from the bar.

Sail through narrow sounds and idyllic bays along the Oslofjord as you glimpse city landmarks, such as the award-winning National Opera House, from your special vantage point. Don't miss the Dyna Lighthouse, on a reef south of the Bygdøy peninsula. This much-loved landmark in the middle of the fjord was built in 1875 and now offers private banqueting facilities with sweeping views.

Continue your journey past Bygdøy, and you'll pass many of Oslo's notable museums, including the Maritime Museum, with its vintage sailing ships and the impressive Fram Museum. See the Akershus Fortress, the city's 14th-century medieval castle located strategically at the tip of the headland, and, as your trip ends, you'll return to the harbor.

This is on an old sailing vessel and all seating is outdoors, although many areas are covered and out of the wind and rain

Tips for future travelers

Try the local drink for sure! I didn't know that you could stay for the Fram museum and they would pick you up later. Something to consider as you build your itinerary (we had Fram museum on day 2 so didn't take advantage of that at the moment)

dress warm and trim the Glogg. Sit on the Port side for better views.

If you get chilly, they have blankets on board. There is also a bar and snack area with items for purchase.

It was a very nice, relaxing ride on a beautiful day at the end of our Norway trip. We met some nice people on the boat. It would have been great to learn more about the area from the guide, but I don't think that was the intent of the cruise. Nice ride. Read more
