Relax & Explore in the Fontana Geothermal Baths, Golden Circle
This experience was a nice treat after the Rye Bread tour. It was relaxing and fun. Really enjoyed the hot springs.
Loved this!
Truly beautiful and relaxing day. Enjoyed the saunas. Definitely a beautiful view from the pool.
Overview
Start with a trip to the steam baths, which locals have been enjoying since 1929. These natural steam baths come from Lake Laugarvatn, where hot and healing steam simmers underground and rises through grids in the traditional cabin floors. Then, head out into the relaxing pools! You have three options: Lauga, Sæla, and Vista, all connected to outdoor mineral baths and vary in depth, size, and temperature.
The pools and hot tubs are perfect for relaxation and recreation, featuring playful artwork in stone made by Icelandic artist Erla Thorarinsdottir. Viska, the hot tub, is built slightly higher, providing a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings while the healthy water nourishes both body and soul.
Next to the steam room is Ylur, a Finnish-style sauna. The temperature is between 176°F (80°C) and 194°F (90°C), with lower humidity than the steam room. So, sit back and enjoy the beautiful lake view through the large window.
After relaxing, feel free to explore the lake itself and its beach. Bathers can walk into the cool lake from a pier or walk on the warm black sand beach. If you can brave it, a cool dip in the lake between the hot steam rooms and sauna is a refreshing temperature shift that supports a healthy heart!
