What you'll do

After boarding your ferry at the Shetlands-Larsens Brygge pier, next to Bergen's iconic fish market, you'll be welcomed aboard by a friendly crew before it's time to set sail. Saying goodbye to the UNESCO-listed Bryggen harbor, with its colorful wooden buildings, you'll continue across the serene Osterfjord, heading north toward Modalen.

As you navigate the fjord, the captain will expertly guide the boat through the narrow and shallow Mostraumen straits, where you'll experience the rush of powerful currents. You'll be treated to increasingly dramatic landscapes, with towering mountains and numerous waterfalls. The captain will bring the boat close to one of these cascading waterfalls, providing a perfect photo opportunity and the chance to feel the mist on your face.

Throughout the cruise, you can listen to the provided audio guides to further enrich your experience, and you may even get to see wildlife. The fjord is home to birds, goats grazing on summer pastures, and occasionally seals sunbathing on the rocky shores. With a bit of luck, you might even spot eagles soaring overhead.

Your vessel is designed for comfort and enjoyment, featuring spacious indoor and outdoor areas to take in the views, regardless of the weather. Inside, you'll find a heated cabin, restrooms, and a kiosk selling freshly baked goods from a local bakery, along with a selection of snacks and hot or cold drinks. For families, the crew often organizes fun activities like treasure hunts or bingo for children, making this cruise a delightful experience for travelers of all ages.

Tips for future travelers

Board early and get an indoor seat. As with all boat trips the outside decks are cold when the boat is moving at high speed, even though the outside decks are warm and sunny when the boat is in the harbour. This boas was a fast boat, and was advertised as such. I stayed on the outside deck when the boat was moving fast,(about the first hour of the trip) since there was unsuitable inside seating. I was dressed for boat travel with my rain gear but the outside deck was very cold. The boat slowed when it got to its cruising location and of course many others came to the outside decks which became very crowded.

Cruise was very comfortable and some great views of the near by village, Bergen bryggen and water falls along the way. Ship was comfortable with ample space on the deck and inside heated cabin. Restrooms were there too. They had a cafe with lots of food and drink options. The crew gave a treasure hunt/bingo for kids to spot and gave ice creams. Only improvement would be better windows for the inside cabin for better view. Read more

This is perfect if you want mix of staying warm and getting out on deck as needed. Not super pricey but its a large group experience.
