What you'll do

Your discovery of two of the most picturesque districts in Athens begins at 5 pm at your meeting point near Monastiraki Square. After a brief introduction by your private guide, you'll start winding your way down the cobbled streets of Plaka, listening to fascinating stories and local secrets that bring the area to life. Full of narrow alleys, flower-draped houses, and lively cafés and bars, Plaka lies in the shadow of the Acropolis and is the oldest neighborhood in Athens (and one of the oldest in the world).

Nestled within Plaka you'll find another gem: Anafiotika. This tiny enclave was built by workers from the Cyclades who brought their traditions and architecture with them when they settled in the 19th century. You'll feel like you've stepped into a traditional island village as you stroll past its whitewashed houses and lovingly tended gardens, glimpse the oldest Byzantine church in the city, and climb colorful stairways draped with basking cats.

As dusk starts to fall, end the two-hour walk with a stop by a historic wine bar to taste four Greek wines. Aided by a professional wine connoisseur, you'll sample varietals made with indigenous red and white grapes accompanied by a selection of cheeses—such as gruyere from Naxos and pecorino from Amfilochia—together with Greek marmalade and breadsticks. Once the hour-long wine tasting is over, you'll part ways with your guide and are free to continue experimenting with Greek wine or follow their recommendation for a local dinner spot.

The woman was lovely, the secrets of Plaka and Anafiotika was fascinating. The wines were very mediocre. We are at a luxury level tour and the wine selection was not appropriate.

Tips for future travelers

I would specify the quality of wines before undertaking tasting . The wine tasting was not an essential part of the experience. If you cannot do it well. Do not do it. However, in the grand scheme of things how much more would it have been to bring out two bottles of a premium wine
