Vineyard Visits & Lunch in Kumeū Wine Country, Auckland

You'll visit a few vineyards to try different wines and enjoy lunch made from fresh seasonal produce. Depending on the season, you may check out the cliffside Muriwai Gannet Colony overlooking the Tasman Sea, and then you'll end the day with a final tasting before returning to Auckland.

Today's excursion brings you to Kumeū, a region just outside Auckland, known for its wine production and natural beauty. Your local guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Auckland and transfer you about 30 minutes northwest to this area. Your guide will tell you about the history of the region and how it came to produce wine, and then you'll get your first taste of that wine with a trip to a vineyard, where you'll also get to enjoy a tasty lunch of fresh local ingredients.

Depending on the season, you may get to visit the Muriwai Gannet Colony. This is one of the world's few mainland nesting sites for these sea birds, and it's perched on a cliff above Muriwai Beach with sweeping views of the Tasman Sea. After soaking in the area's rugged coastline, you'll continue your wine tastings at two more vineyards, which may include Westbrook Winery, one of New Zealand's oldest wine producers, and Coopers Creek, known for a great variety of bottles. At the end of your excursion, you'll be taken back to Auckland to spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
