H10 Madison Hotel, Barcelona

Kimkim team favorite · 4.8 (5 reviews) · Upscale
Modern boutique hotel at the edge of the Gothic Quarter, featuring a rooftop terrace with a heated plunge pool and Cathedral views

Overview

H10 Madison Hotel offers a contemporary stay with a touch of vintage style, just steps from Barcelona's vibrant Gothic Quarter. The Picasso Museum, Plaça de Catalunya, and the waterfront are all within a 10-minute stroll, as are the tapas bars and boutiques of El Born. Rooms and suites feel bright and inviting, with honey-toned wood, retro ceiling fans, and marble bathrooms, and some include balconies or Barcelona Cathedral views. Downstairs guests will find a chic bistro and cocktail bar, but the rooftop is the real star of the show—complete with a heated plunge pool and views over the Cathedral's Gothic spires.

Kimkim's Take

Pros
  • The hotel feels fresh and contemporary while retaining the ambience of its early 20th-century building.
  • You'll be in an ideal location between the Gothic Quarter and El Born, within walking distance from most city landmarks.
  • The rooms and suites feature honey-colored wood accents, large windows, and marble bathrooms; some include balconies or Cathedral views.
  • The staff is known for being friendly and helpful.
  • You'll have amazing views of the Barcelona Cathedral from the rooftop terrace and heated plunge pool.
Cons
  • Due to its central location, guests might experience some noise from the bustling nearby areas.

Authenticity

H10 Madison opened in 2018 as the latest Barcelona address from the Spanish H10 hotel group. Guest rooms are spread throughout a beautifully renovated collection of early 20th-century residential buildings, and though the overall effect is contemporary, the original high ceilings and arched windows remain. There's more than a touch of vintage character incorporated into the stylish, modern interiors, too—the lobby and adjoining lounges sport bottle-green velvet armchairs, decorative paneling, and crystal chandeliers, plus an eclectic collection of Surrealist-style paintings and objets d'art.

Location

Straddling the Gothic Quarter and El Born neighborhoods, you'll be just around the corner from the Barcelona Cathedral and steps away from Via Laietana, the buzzy street that cuts through the city's Old Town. This location means you're within easy strolling distance of most city sites, including Plaça de Catalunya, La Rambla, Arc de Triomf, Passeig de Gràcia, and the marina. When you want to venture farther afield, a 5-minute walk south takes you to the Jaume I metro line. There's no on-site parking, but the hotel can help you find paid options nearby.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The hotel offers 101 air-conditioned rooms, all featuring honey-toned woods, retro ceiling fans, and framed lithographs and sketches. Classic rooms face either the inner atrium or the outer street; those on the building's corner have scenic views of the Cathedral and some include balconies. Larger Deluxe options sleep three with an extra sofa bed, and Junior Suites add a lounge area. The stylish marble bathrooms come with rainfall showers and Rituals toiletries. Three accessible rooms are available, and all floors are reached by elevator.

Amenities

The ground-floor Avenue Restaurant & Cocktail Bar is a snazzy space for bistro-style meals, with traditional Catalan tiling, jade-green leather banquettes, and a curved bar. An optional (but recommended) breakfast buffet is served here in the mornings, with a great selection of local products and made-to-order waffles. For al fresco dining, head up to the seasonal rooftop terrace, where you'll find an eatery, bar, and heated plunge pool surrounded by sun loungers and spectacular views of the Barcelona Cathedral.

Family-Friendliness

H10 Madison welcomes families, but children over the age of two are charged as adults, and extra beds can't be added to rooms. The larger rooms can accommodate families of four comfortably, with additional sofa beds in the Triple, Deluxe, and Junior Suite units.

I loved this hotel because it is centrally located to everything and is easy to walk to, such as the Barcelona Cathedral, the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, and more. H10 was perfect for our first stop in Barcelona. We liked the location it was close to the Gothic Quarter. It was quiet but close to businesses if you wanted it. The morning breakfast was delicious and lots of choices. The wait staff always had a smile on their face and helped us through the menu.

They entire team met us with such kindness, explained where to explore on the map, helped us with some laundry that needed to be done, and gave us recommendations on where to have some local wines. We couldn't have asked for a better place.

Everyone was wonderful! I wish I knew everyone's name. From the wait staff to the front desk (Alberto ?). No one made us feel less because we didn't speak english and they had a lot of patience.
