Authenticity

Hotel Carlton was designed by Basque-English architect Manuel Maria Smith Ibarra in 1926; the hotel is a stunning example of the French Second Empire style and was declared an Architectural, Historical, and Cultural Monument by the Basque Government in 1995. With its triangular layout, chamfered angles, and beautiful leaded stained glass window, the hotel exudes classic elegance and pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of Villa de Bilbao.

Hotel Carlton offers 142 spacious and elegantly decorated rooms, ranging from standard rooms to the luxurious Imperial Suite, the largest in northern Spain. The hotel's rooms feature both classic and contemporary design elements, ensuring a comfortable and stylish stay. Superior rooms and Junior Suites offer stunning views of the Federico Moyúa Square, while the magnificent Imperial Suite has a large terrace. All rooms have free WiFi and signature amenities.

Amenities

Although there is no pool or spa, the Hotel Carlton does have a few great amenities you can take advantage of. There is a small gym equipped with free weights and cardio machines, and you’ll find a steam room next door. You can also park comfortably at the hotel's underground garage for a fee (reservations required). There are wheelchair-accessible rooms and you’ll find wide doorways, ramps, and elevators accessing all floors. 

Family-Friendliness

Although the hotel caters more to an adult clientele, children of all ages are welcome. There are interconnecting rooms that can be booked, and some rooms and suites accommodate extra beds. There are no amenities for children or families.

The hotel's gastronomic offerings are centered around the Artagan Restaurant, where you can enjoy the finest Basque cuisine. For a more casual experience, the Bar Grill serves up delicious pintxos, coffee, and cocktails, while the Carlton Terrace, open from June to September, offers unbeatable views of Plaza Moyúa and serves lunch, dinner, and snacks. The hotel also houses El Bunker, a private bar and former concrete shelter during the Civil War, which now serves as an elegant English-style bar for cocktails, coffee breaks, and product presentations.
