Hotel Kartaxa Cartagena, Cartagena
Charming Colonial-style boutique hotel with local artwork, an outdoor pool, and a rooftop terrace with sea views
Overview
Hotel Kartaxa Cartagena, situated in the Walled City, is a charming colonial-style boutique hotel enriched with local history and culture, as it's housed in a 150-year-old property with rooms that showcase representative works in painting and photographs. Guests may find the spacious lobby feels homely, with plenty of comfortable sofas, chairs, and desks to work as someone plays the piano beneath a vibrant painting. You may find beautiful flowering plants throughout the hotel, adding color to an otherwise white palette. If you want to explore the city, you can walk to many popular destinations like the Plaza de las Bovedas (2 minutes), Bastion of Santa Catalina (9 minutes), Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (12 minutes), Museum of Modern Art (13 minutes), and San Felipe Castle (18 minutes).
The 25 individually decorated rooms have tile floors and neutral walls with local art. Many suites have ornate-looking furniture, including a large bed, nightstands, a loveseat, a desk, and a chair. In some rooms, you'll find small balconies to get fresh air and enjoy views of the street and adjacent buildings. Some kimkim guests have found the basic bathrooms with pretty tilework small, with just a shower and sink.
At Hotel Kartaxa Cartagena, you can start your day with a complimentary breakfast before walking around the city. Upon your return, you might lounge by the small outdoor pool, sip a cocktail, or take in the sea views from the hotel's rooftop terrace. When it's time to enjoy dinner, head to the hotel restaurant to sample local cuisine in a relaxing environment.

This was more like a 3 star hotel. Good location, but few amenities and felt low budget. You could not drink the water in your room - you had to get drinking water from a dispenser in the hallway. No elevator for bags. Not luxe by any means.
