Le Chateau des Grotteaux, Blois
Historic château with views of Cosson River offering stylish rooms, an outdoor pool, a tennis court, and a breakfast buffet
Overview
Château Des Grotteaux is a renovated historic property dating back to the 18th century. The château grounds include the Mansart Pavilion and The Orangery, structures listed in the Inventory of Historic Monuments. The château's location in Huisseau-sur-Cosson, a charming rural area, serves as a relaxing city escape while still being less than a 30-minute drive from attractions such as the Loire Valley, Le Carroir, and Château de Chambord. The Cosson River also flows across the château, so you can enjoy it without stepping outside the property.
Each room at Château Des Grotteaux is an intentionally curated space. Every piece of decor, from the fabrics to the furniture, is used as a way of storytelling and crafting a home-like ambience—as if it were a space you always lived in. For example, the Chambre de Guillaume Ribier room is adorned with reds, muted greys, and vibrant Bengali patterns to liven up the space. The oak parquet flooring and carpets make it warm and inviting while overlooking the park and courtyard. On the other hand, the Chambre de Zeus option has the gods of Olympus painted on its gray walls, bringing an artistic element to the space.
For an upgrade, Suite du Cardinal de Richelieu sleeps up to four people and offers views of the Cosson River, Cheverny vines, the park, and the courtyard. The bathroom features an Italian-style shower, a tub to soak in, and a convenient double basin. For a more secluded stay, you can opt for the Chambre de Charles-Joseph Bagieu, located in the Orangery, accessible by a private staircase.
Start your day at Château Des Grotteaux with a continental breakfast in the dining room. You can also enjoy complimentary hot drinks throughout the day from here or in the drawing room, heated with a tiled wood-burning stove in the winter or full of sunshine during summer. The château also has a piano you can play when you're not exploring the area or lounging in your room. If you feel like spending time outdoors, dip in the seasonal outdoor pool or play a game of tennis on the tennis court. You can also explore the property on foot or make use of the château's complimentary bicycles to explore the surrounding area.
