Born in a Berber village under the Atlas Mountains, I'm Abdel, the heart behind Original Travels. My early days, immersed in the rich tapestry of Moroccan tradition, inspired me to share my homeland's true spirit beyond the usual tourist paths.
As a tour guide, I realized my dream could be bigger—leading to Original Travels. It's not just about showing Morocco's beauty; it's about experiencing it authentically, connecting deeply with local communities and preserving our rich cultural heritage.
At Original Travels, we prioritize sustainable, meaningful journeys that honor both the land and its people. We're about creating experiences that resonate with the soul of Morocco, inviting travelers to discover its essence alongside us.
This is my story, my invitation to you. Let's explore Morocco in a way that touches the heart and leaves a lasting imprint, together.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"At Original Travels, we focus on showcasing Morocco's rich landscapes and cultures through tailored experiences in:
Cities: Exploring the vibrant streets of Marrakech, the serene blue alleys of Chefchaouen, and the coastal charm of Essaouira.
Mountains: Trekking in the Atlas Mountains, visiting traditional Berber villages, and enjoying the natural beauty of Morocco’s highlands.
Deserts: Venturing into the Sahara for camel treks, luxury desert camps, and unforgettable star-gazing sessions under the clear, vast sky.
Activities include:
Cultural Immersion: Family meals, traditional ceremonies, and artisan visits.
Luxury Travels: Top Notch stays, private Trips, honeymoons
Culinary Tours: Cooking classes and market tours.
Historical Explorations: Guided visits to ancient sites and landmarks.
Wellness: Yoga retreats and traditional hammam experiences."
How did you get involved in travel?
"I was drawn into travel by my Berber heritage and the natural beauty of my hometown in the Atlas Mountains. Wanting to share Morocco's rich culture and landscapes with others, I started as a tour guide. This passion led me to establish Original Travels, where I could offer more authentic and meaningful experiences to travelers, deeply rooted in local traditions and sustainability. My journey into travel is a reflection of my love for my homeland and its stories."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"A night spent in the Sahara Desert remains an unforgettable travel experience for me. Riding camels at sunset, we ventured deep into the dunes, where the vast silence and the blanket of stars overhead offered a profound sense of solitude and connection to the universe. Away from the campfire, under the dense, starlit sky, I felt an overwhelming sense of awe and humility. This moment, stark and beautiful, underscored the transformative power of travel, revealing the earth’s magnificent scale and mystery in an instant. It’s a vivid reminder of the world's wonders, forever etched in my memory."

Morocco is a wonderful place to visit. Original travel was great and our driver and tour guides where fantastic. The Riads were beautiful and it will always be a memorable trip! Although it is a long drive the overnight in the Erg Chebbi - the Sahara dessert dunes was amazing. We are very grateful for our tour guides, particularly navigating the amazing Median of Fez. The history and culture we learned from them enhanced the trip immeasurably.

Our driver, Ayoub Benala was with us for 15 days. Although he does not yet have his qualifications to be a quide he was extremely knowledgeable about his culture and the history of the areas we visited. He was generous and excited to share this knowledge.
He was reliable and accessible. We were three friends with different needs. He was sensitive and aware of this and adeptly handled all circumstances with grace.
We all became very fond of Ayoub and feel fortunate to have had him as our driver .

Yusef in Merzhuga was one of the most articulate people I've even met.
All of the Riad's were good with the exception of Chefchaon, which while run by lovely people was a dark unpleasant place to stay. There wasn't even a glass a single glass in the room to have a drink of water, much less a bottle of water. The Riad in Tangiers was delightful, the Riad in Fes was quite lovely, in a traditional old home. The Riad in Marrakesh was another lovely, comfortable well appointed place. The Hotel is Skoura was of course palatial. It was so elegant, a little bit of paradise. The gardens, the swimming pool, all of the rooms were divine. Breakfast under the ancient olive tree was a once in a lifetime experience.
The camp in the Merzhuga desert was very well run. The tents were lovely and the whole experience was excellent.
The one thing that I didn't like about this trip is that I wished it wasn't so shopping centric. I didn't really want to stop at all of the herbalist, and oil and soap making facilities. There should only have been one of those on the whole trip. But it came up over and over and I felt an uncomfortable pressure to buy things I didn't want to buy. There were at least three of those stops scheduled.
Ayoub was our prize on this trip. We will never forget this Amerzigh kind person.

Ok, so the 4 stars had only a little to do with my KimKim experience overall. However with all of the illnesses my husband and I experienced, giving the trip five stars would not be real. Ok, things that made this trip great - driver pick up from the airport - they hired a porter once we arrived near our Riad Bayti, because the streets are so narrow, we could not be dropped off doorstep. My husband was so sick, he couldn't walk to the Riad, and the porter put him in the wheelbarrow and wheeled him to our Riad = ABOVE AND BEYOND! The Riad was in a central location - right by the spice market. The host was gracious and kind and we had refreshing mint tea as our welcome drink. Our room was traditionally decorated and had a full and a twin sized bed which turned out to be a blessing. There was also a very nice rooftop where I spent a lot of time.
My first full day, I had a nice full day tour. You can easily get lost in the narrow streets and not where you want to be - so it was nice to have a guide show me around - let me enjoy "sand coffee" and take me to a lovely (allergy accommodating) lunch. YSL gardens/museum were nice - 1.5 does suffice. I had a relaxing hammam experience with a stellar massage! I enjoyed Marrakech, but after my own bout of food borne illness, I was happy to take our leave.
We headed out to Imlil which was a nice scenic car ride. Upon arriving, our Riad (Dar Imlil) was lovely - they upgraded us, and our room had a both a nice indoor sitting area, as well as a nice balcony overlooking the pool with the mountains as the backdrop. We sat there for several hours taking in the peacefulness of the mountains and the surrounding quiet enjoying freshly brewed teas the host gave us to ease our gastric distress. We had a very good outdoor dinner prepared by our host that was more than we could eat and just delicious. The next day we had a hike. Abdullah our KimKim host knew my husband still wasn't feeling well and he asked if we wanted a mule - that was extremely thoughtful and turned out to be a great option that allowed my husband to not completely lose out on the trip. We were able to have a nice lunch at our guide's home. Turns out, they also AirBnb their place-so it was updated and clean and we didn't feel "eeked" out eating there (considering our negative food experiences on the trip - no fault of KimKim). We then head off to Agafay to Yes, We Camp - it was an oasis in the desert. We were welcomed, dropped our bags in our "glampsite" and headed to the pool. I was in the desert and the pool water was actually COOL!!! Later, we went for a camel ride and then had a very LARGE dinner back at the camp with fun entertainment included. I mean for a desert location, it definitely exceeded our expectations! We checked out the next morning, and off to Casablanca to catch our flight.
So sickness aside, we had a really nice experience. Prior to Morocco we were in India...comparing KimKim to the tour company we used there to Morocco, is another reason for the 4 stars. In India we had soup to nuts VIP experience where our driver became our friend and was very friendly and kind, and we met our met our local host in person and he made sure we lacked nothing. Our Morocco drivers were "friendly enough" but not our friends - can't remember their names. . .I never actually met the local guide. So, I would say, if you are looking for the "average traveller" experience, then this is for you. Unfortunately, I had just completed a 5 star hotel VIP experience in India, so I had to reset my expectations here. . .which is fine, but dear reader, just letting you know.
Hotel Reviews
This Riad was centrally location in the spice market, very walkable. The host was gracious and very accommodating. Our room was very nice and comfortable, decorated traditionally. They have a great rooftop where I spent evenings privately, writing and unwinding. I had a delicious dinner dinner at the property my first evening (where you can get wine) and each morning a (bread heavy) breakfast. The only reason I don't give 5 starts here is because you do need to request/pay for bottled water and I'd just stayed in 5 star hotels in India. . .and I want to be honest:-)
Cleanliness & Comfort
The towels I think are line dried, for an American, just note, there's no "fabric softener" so the towel smelled used.
This place has a very good location. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the pool and we had the mountains as our backgdrop - we spent hours sitting there and just enjoying the view. We informed our host that we were having stomach issues, and they brewed us a special tea that helped a lot. Our dinner as traditional and very good (which means a lot as we were recovering from food issues on Turkish airlines and in Marrakech). We only stayed one night, but we very much enjoyed the hospitality of the host and the superb view!
Yes We camp Agafay
Marrakesh
This is our second time "glamping" in a desert. Our first stay was in Dubai, which we absolutely loved, but this one exceeded our expectations! Our "tent" was SOOO clean - no "icky" feeling, it was nicely decorated and felt new. There was a really nice pool and the water was actually "cool" being in the desert! There was a nice dinner, with more food than I could possibly eat, that was delicious, and we had energetic live entertainment. We only stayed overnight - but it felt like the kind of place I could have stayed for several nights and really had some nice chill days!

Framing this, I've done spas in multiple countries in the world. As a prude American, I always have to say to myself, I'm not in America, you're gonna be naked. But, my "scrubber" who kept leaving the door open, could tell I was uncomfortable and at one point, she actually laughed at me (I laughed too). My massage was firm, and my therapist kept checking in to make sure the pressure was good - it was very, very good. I enjoyed my experience very much, but I am not giving 5 stars because the scrubber poured water on my face and it went up my nose and down my throat, and the experience felt a little rushed. I do understand when your operation turns over a lot of people in a single day, but I as the client never want to feel that.

The guided trek through Toubkal National Park was truly wonderful. Even though we faced some health challenges with my husband being sick, the local guide was incredibly considerate and arranged for a mule, so he didn't miss out on the experience. This made the outing memorable and enjoyable, allowing us to take in the beautiful scenery without worry.

We had a fantastic twelve day adventure in Morocco with KimKim. I would recommend it to anyone keen for safe but exotic adventure. Our trip started at Tangiers, then to Chefchaouen, Fes, a Sahara camp, the Dades valley and finished in Marrakech.
Oussama, our driver and guide was wonderful, our car was comfortable and modern, the Riads along the way were beautiful and very very friendly. Special mentions for the Hotel Jasmine in Chefchaouen and Riad Laroussa in Fes!

The Tiziri Luxury camp in the Sahara, and the 3 hour sunset camel ride in to the camp from Merzouga over the dunes was an experience of a lifetime

We almost always do all of our own planning and booking for foreign travel, but while googling Morocco destinations we came across kimkim and decided to give them a try. Saïd put together an incredible, flawless itinerary that hit all of our requests on the nail, within our budget. And he was always available, seemingly at any time of day or night, to answer questions or offer advice. And we were accompanied for the entire trip, from airport to the Sahara and back again, by our skillful, courteous and immensely organized driver/guide/new friend Noureddine! Our riad in Marrakesh was beautiful, we had a wonderful guided tour of the Medina and souks, and Noureddine led us to fun and varied restaurants, while accounting for the four of us being a mix of omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. The drive from Marrakech to Merzouga and the edge of the Sahara is a long way, but the route through the gorges and Amazigh/Berber villages of the Atlas Mountains was beautiful and fascinating, and we stopped frequently for viewpoints, lunch, and bathroom breaks. And once again Saïd arranged for very high quality accommodation at beautiful riads, and some memorable breakfasts and dinners. It was thrilling to see the dunes of Erg Chebbi appear and grow on the horizon, and when we arrived at our camp at sunset we got straight on to the camels for a dune trek — magical. Our camp on the edge of the dunes had air conditioning units, flushing toilets and showers, and was operated by 6 lively young Amazigh men who fed us, sang, danced and played drums with us, and helped us try sandboarding! All in all it was an amazing week of sights, sounds, tastes, smells, laughs and memories. Thank you Saïd and Noureddine for everything you did to introduce us to your spectacular country!
